First trailer for AMC's The Walking Dead debuts

Aug. 24, 2010by:

Alright, so it's not a movie, but it's pretty damn close, and I suspect that a number of you are as excited for The Walking Dead as I am.

AMC is the king of good TV between Mad Men and Breaking Bad (but what the hell is the deal with Rubicon? BORING), and so the fact that they're doing a zombie show with Frank Darabont is something to behold.

This is the four and a half minute trailer that was shown at Comic-Con, that AMC feels is best viewed by the general public a full month later. It gives you a taste of what to expect from the series. Which is pure awesomeness. With a good cast and perhaps the best zombie makeup effects in history, and we've got a surefire hit on our hands.

Check it out below courtesy of THR, who also informs us the series will debut with a hour and a half long episode on Halloween night, October 31st.

Extra Tidbit: Yes, that is the guy with all the cute signs from LOVE ACTUALLY.

Awesome

I also read that the show will have guest directors and George Romero will have one to direct.

I don't get cable, but I will be watching this. This looks fantastic, and it's good to finally see a zombie tv series. I thought that this might be a lame show, as there hasn't been a really [link] dealing with zombies recently, but this looks like it will be good.

can not wait! the old lady by the roadside made me sad when i read it and it looks nicely replicated :)

To the guy who said it was 28 days later, Day of the Triffids did it also back in the day.Plus ...still dont agree that 28 days later were zombies.

Its nice to see a series like this in good hands :)

Alright, I'm in!

I hope they can sustain this as a series, but other than that minor doubt, this looks great!

Tell ya what, with Mad Men and now this, I don't know why anyone would PAY for a "premium movie channel". AMC is king.

No offense to George A Romero. He should have been doing a tv series instead of trying to reboot another trilogy of movies.

There are soooo many more characters (and characters they added for the show only) most of the trailer footage happens between the first few pages of the comic. There are plenty more to come.

Gory matters here.

Why couldn't they cast the REAL Tony Goldwyn instead of his look-a-like?? Anyway, this looks awesome. I just hope it stands tall along side MM&BB. If it does we have a lot to look forward to.

Seems awesome but question to those of you who've read the books...are there more characters? it kinda seems like its gonna be only focused on this one guy travelling cross country with the exception of the one black guy back home i was kinda hoping for more of an ensemble cast like 28 days later or something. anyone know if the trailer is just not showing the other characters?

The comic actually started employing a character index at the end of each book just to keep you on top of who all had come and gone.

I cannot wait for Michonne to come strolling in...that's obviously going to be season two (at least) if they're only doing six episodes. Come on, October!

I agree with DarkElfa

Gore and blood (and even an R-rating) does not make a good story; it's all about the script; and, as a fan of the comic series, I have high hopes for the television series.

I would also like to say that I'm not worried about this show not having tons of gore and blood. Too many zombie films tend to rely on gore and blood and cheap shocks/scares to make up for the lack of a good story. This show will be different.

28 Days Later ripped that scene from Day of the Triffids. It has been used many times since. My guess is The Walking Dead & 28 Days Later both paid homage to this classic plot device.

I own the entire Walking Dead book series thus far and I can tell you one thing, if its anywhere near as good as the books, then it will be the best Zombie story yet put to screen.

(Until they do WWZ of course)

looks pretty cool so far! I was disappointed at first to see it was just the same trailer you showed a while back, but it's cool to see an official one instead of the bootleg we got from someone at comic con. I really do hope the acting is spot on! I've never read the comic, but am looking forward to this.

I'm in agreement with the skeptical "WTF?" crowd. For the life of me, I can't see what people are so jazzed about. My only guess is that they love the graphic novel series and are excited that it's now live action, because honestly, that may be the only thing this has going for it -- BY THE LOOK, of course.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a big zombie fan (though I haven't read this series). But I think this looks dull as shit, with bland performances all around. I cringe at the thought of AMC

I cringe at the thought of AMC simply rehashing zombie stuff that's been done in film. (Now, I don't know what came first, this or 28 Days Later, so...yeah.)

Sure, it's different because it's a TV series, but as someone mentioned, it could become "tedious" and could easily "run out of ideas." Seriously, before the thumbs down, explain to me WHY this is going to be good.

Why is this going to be good? It's going to be good because it's a weekly AMC TV drama about FUCKING ZOMBIES. Look at everyone involved with it, man. It has win written all over it.

Also, if it's your thing to shit all over a series (one that you yourself claim to know nothing about) that could run the risk of becoming "tedious" someday, then you probably should just throw away your TV right now, because that's pretty much the case with every show that's ever been created, or ever will

Ok first.. I didn't give you a thumbs down. B.. If you read the series you'll realize it's a very well written character drama. The zombies are just a side character. If Darabont follows the story then you'll see that he only follows one man. Everyone else is a secondary character. So when some new person comes into the show and you think "oh they're just gunna die" but they dont, and you become invested in that character. If done right he'll make you care about them. But the real scary

But the real scary thing is not knowing whats going to happen next. There is absolutely enough source material for them to keep this show going for at LEAST five seasons. Again the only thing im worried about is acting because that is the only thing that could bring this down the crapper in my opinion. Groovy?

Thanks NY, and for taking the time to actually respond. While the trailer is far from spectacular in my view, I'll reserve full judgment until I check out the pilot. Your description has certainly peaked my interest. It's also AMC, so that definitely gives it some cred.

As for IAF, I appreciate your explanation, though you didn't provide much in the way of reasons to watch the show. I do know who's a part of it, and I do realize it's about zombies. That's all well and good, but it's

As for IAF, I appreciate your explanation, though you didn't provide much in the way of reasons to watch the show. I do know who's a part of it, and I do realize it's about zombies. That's all well and good, but it's certainly not enough for me. Judging by your pic, I can see you don't need anymore convincing. That's cool. I did assume the show would be a "win," but that was BEFORE I watched the trailer. This is the first solid impression I got of the series.

Sure, I claim to know nothing about it -- but I watched the same damn trailer as everyone else and I still think it LOOKS pretty damn boring. Do you think they're marketing this just toward fans of the books? I didn't think so either. So I have every right to share my skepticism based on what I've seen -- a preview, designed to promote the series and attract viewers. As a trailer, it did not do a good job of getting me excited about the show. If it's a well written series? Great. It'll probably suck me in and I'll be a fan. But from the make of the trailer? Nope. I'm far from sold.

And as far as me "shitting" on a series for potentially being tedious? Yeah, I can definitely speak my mind on that. The preview introduced a group of people dealing with a zombie-infested world, a dude looking for his family, and that Atlanta may be a safe destination. So... from the trailer... I've gathered that the series will follow this guy, possibly others he meets, who are on their way there. Avoiding/fighting zombies on their trek. I'm failing to see...much complexity. Now you've got the advantage of foresight, so good for you. Save your stabs and just let the TV show wow me.

One of the things that should be kept in mind is that this is the trailer that was screened at Comic-Con, and was directed towards the fans who have already read the comic.

From the looks of it, this trailer consist of just the pilot episode. I'm sure once September hits, you'll start seeing more trailers of the series that are aimed at grabbing the attention of viewers who have not yet read the comic book.

Ummmmmm... Now don't hate me, I'm not saying it's bad. I actually think it looks pretty good... But I'm a bit skeptical and clueless to this. So can some zombie expert please enlighten me as to how this could run for a couple seasons without becoming tedious and running out of ideas? Now I'm not being sarcastic despite my tone. I'm genuinely, sincerely curious...

The whole point of the stroy is it's a "zombie movie that never ends" and while some will see area's of the story as tedious or boring rest assured any time this happened in the comics it was always a calm before the storm.

I was put off by the camera and editing in the beginning, but fell in line when the character woke up in the hospital, only to loose interest again as it went into slow exposition. I stopped midway. I'm sure it's good, but the trailer bored me.

Huge Fan

I'm huge fan of the Comic and am pretty damn excited for this. The make up looks top notch, I just hope the acting holds up as it's really all about the characters not the zombies. Hopefully Darabont will be able to show that zombies can indeed be creepy even in the daylight as that has always been my biggest gripe with zombie movies. They look too comical in the sun, but throw them in the dark and listen to a moan in an indistinct location and the creep factor shoots way up. Now I have to
