First trailer for David Ayer's WWII tank drama Fury with Brad Pitt rolls in

Jun. 25, 2014by: Paul Shirey

We've seen quite a few set pics, official images, and even a featurette from director David Ayer's FURY and now the full trailer for the WWII drama has rolled in. Starring Brad Pitt as "Wardaddy," the leader of a group of soldiers on a tank crew that includes Shia "I'm-not-famous-anymore" LaBeouf, Jon Bernthal, Logan Lerman, and Michael Pena, the flick looks battle ready and a solid entry in the war film genre. Ayer didn't have too much luck with SABOTAGE, his recent actioner with Arnold Schwarzenegger, but with his usual hardcore grit in tact, it looks like he's still bringing his style and punch to the trenches regardless.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and out-gunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

Looks like a really kick ass flick to me and a perfect movie to shake things up during the winter season. Pitt can be rather choosy with his roles and it's nice to see him branch out a bit and embrace the action hero role a little more. It's not the first time we've seen him as a WWII soldier, such as his role as Aldo Raine in INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, but this one looks a bit less cartoonish and more straightforward. Then again, he is called "Wardaddy" so there's that. Either way, I'm enlisting for this one.

FURY rolls into theaters on November 14, 2014.

"I promised my crew a longtime ago i`d keep them alive." Safe to say Brad Pitt is going too die in this. When the greenhorn first meets War daddy it plays a little too much like in Saving Private Ryan when the writer first meets Tom Hanks character. This does have a shit load of cliche in it, which is what you want from a war movie.Love the tag line.Looks a awesome movie.Hope it does well.

I felt like this trailer was pretty uninspiring. The film itself looks great, but there were too many cliche life lesson phrases and matter-of-fact exclamations, too much plot reveal, weak supporting music, and other minor things.

I think at least bringing down the effects volume and increasing the music volume would have made a notable difference. LIke really, listen again and tell me that's not one of the quietest trailer background songs you've ever heard. I prefer less is more, so I

I love your contradictory statement.

"I prefer less is more"

"That song is too quiet"

Guess you wanted a MORE bombastic score.

Lol

I don't see them being contradictory. I wasn't thinking a bombastic score necessarily, but for the volume to be up at least. You can hardly notice it. I meant less is more as in: don't make the entire trailer filled with lines from the movie. Keep the footage simple and not too revealing

I love all things WW2 and I think this looks truly awful. Throw every cliche in the book lets see what sticks.

Looks great!

Then again, so did SABOTAGE in the first trailer.
Please let this be a return to form for Ayer... and Shia.
Pulling 4 you, FURY!

What's wrong with being called "Wardaddy?" It's not cartoonish it's just his callsign. I'm in the military and anyone worth a shit typically has one. This movie looks pretty good.

Looks awesome. Jon Bernthal FTW. Hopefully Shia doesn't suck up the joint though.

I agree with those below, it does look very well shot. But, I wont go so far as to say instant classic. The dialogue seems to balance a line where it might work in context, but could easily come off poorly.

Also, please stop casting Logan Lerman in movies. He only plays one character and he's terrible at it.

Also please stop casting Shia LeBeouf in movies. He was Logan Lerman before Logan Lerman. Now, he's just an idiot.

Looks incredible. Real Oscar worthy material. Everything looks perfect and it sounds like there is going to be a hell of a lot of great dialogue in this. It also looks gorgeously shot as well.

Can't wait.

Looks good...I've always wondered how well received these WW2 movies are in Germany. I imagine it's pretty awkward for them to watch in theaters.

I'm german and it's not awkward for us to watch these kind of movies at all. We don't have any sympathy for Hitler and the third reich. I personally loved "Saving private Ryan".

The only thing that's kind of disconcerting to us is the "Fuck Yeah" America World Police Patriotism that comes with most of these flicks.
War is a dirty business and everybody gets their hands dirty. Giving our history we are very reserved in showing our troops much love.

I think it's important to recognize the sacrifices of the job without blending out the political circumstances. So I am preferring a more critical view toward the military in general.

Regarding the movie: I personally loved all the Ayer movies i've seen, but the trailer is a bit underwhelming. Lacks some real emotion.

@fat-womanizer That's a great answer. My brother, who is a military history buff, also said the trailer seemed underwhelming. He added that it looks like a Brad Pitt vanity project and that he would rather have seen a film about the German soldiers manning the tanks in the same conflict.

Jedd, maybe the Flag of Our Fathers/Letters to Iwo Jima style treatment to the story might be a good idea.

@Netforce perhaps so. Flag of Our Fathers and Letters to Iwo Jima were excellent companion pieces and I hope more Hollywood filmmakers adopt that approach when making historical drama films.

Yeah, I agree with you. And somehow both movies remind me of "Tora Tora Tora" where we hear both sides of the story.

Some of the cinematography is actually quite lush while still maintaining a bleakness to it, probably the prettiest out of any Ayer film so far.

David Ayer is hit-and-miss in my book, however, when he hits, he hits pretty hard.
Unlike the gung-ho 'Muricans beneath me (love ya guys :* ) I definitely will not hyperbolise it so blindly, but it does look pretty damn good.

Instant Classic

I smell an instant classic, but I am wary as SABOTAGE was something awful, though End of Watch is AMAZING. Anyway, looks very cool, looks like it's got lots of meat for the actors to rip into, looks shiny and expensive.

Looks like we might just have ourselves a new king of tank movies. Even though they pulled out the old chestnut of putting in a newbie so the audience can learn about tanks. But cant wait for this to hit the theaters.
