Kathryn Bigelow has made a name for herself by crafting intense and complex action films and thrillers, with her recent efforts, THE HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY, earning her massive acclaim. She will bring that talent to the story of a police raid in that sparked a massive citizen uprising in 1967 Detroit in the aptly named movie, DETROIT. The topic of racial divisions that still exists in our communities, and how that relates to our relationship with the police, is a topic that may seem more relevant today than ever before, but the story in the movie proves it’s always been a prevailing issue. Though I think the trailer could’ve used a bit more subtlety, the footage is searing and engaging, and I think this will be another win for the director.
