First trailer for Steven Spielberg's adaptation of Roald Dahl's The BFG

Disney has released the first trailer for THE BFG, the Steven Spielberg-directed adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl children's book, and although it doesn't reveal much and is really more of a teaser than a full trailer, it's still a great first look at the upcoming movie. The film stars The BRIDGE OF SPIES and THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL actor Mark Rylance as the titular giant, and also features the talents of Bill Hader, Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton, Adam Godley, Rebecca Hall and 10-year-old newcomer Ruby Barnhill.

"And that is where our story begins..."

Synopsis:

The BFG is no ordinary bone-crunching giant. He is far too nice and jumbly. It's lucky for Sophie that he is. Had she been carried off in the middle of the night by the Bloodbottler, or any of the other giants—rather than the BFG—she would have soon become breakfast. When Sophie hears that the giants are flush-bunking off to England to swollomp a few nice little chiddlers, she decides she must stop them once and for all. And the BFG is going to help her!

The BFG has always been my favorite Dahl tale, and I've been waiting years for a live-action, big screen take on the novel. It looks like Spielberg's adaptation will do the book justice, and I can't wait to see more from the film.

THE BFG is due out on July 1, 2016.

you are a mindless drone if you think this looks good. This movie looks awful, and the only reason you think it looks good is because it was made by Disney and Spielberg.

Not something I'd rush out to see in theaters but looks like a 2 hours on my couch. I can't think of a Spielberg film I haven't enjoyed so count me in.

I'm gonna be honest (as a 80's, 90's gamer kid)

All that ever comes to mind when I hear the initials BFG are (B)IG (F)UCKING (G)UN.

Come on, this looks really lame.

The thing that kills it is that shitty CGI. This should have been made back in the 80s and used the same practical style of effects for Jurassic Park, ET, Jaws and other Spielberg greats.

Practical effects for 50ft giants - Jurassic park included a lot of CGI - 90 seconds to deduce something is lame - you make some cracking well thought out points TOOL

This trailer is not very good. Everyone is sucking this off because it's directed by Spielberg and made by Disney, but if this exact same trailer said "a Paramount picture directed by Rupert Wyatt", I think people wouldn't be as enthused.

It's not a"silly comment", you missed the point I was making completely. The trailer is terrible. The only reason you and other people on here think it looks good is because it has Spielberg's name attached to it.

About damn time :)

God I loved this book as a kid and my kids are just the right age to get into Dahl, this was always my favourite tho and I hope the make the Giants scary as hell. The biggest disappointment I found with the animated version was the deviation from the Giants descriptions about how they got their names and also their hunting trips which I hope is in the new film. On a side not I'd like them to also redo The Witches and I think Willy Wonka still needs doing right especially the follow up about the

Looks magical and I'll be there no matter what. Just hope the CGI turns out better than Jack and the Giants.

Gene Wilder'?

What's the word on Wilder? Wasn't that long ago I read an article stating Spielberg was trying to get the ole Waco Kid himself to voice the title character...

I hadn't heard about Wilder in connection to this film, but I have heard talk of Spielberg pursuing him for the role of James Halliday in Ready Player One.
