First trailer for the Coen Brother's Inside Llewyn Davis starring Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan arrives

01.24.2013

As is usually the case with the Coen Brothers, their latest pic, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS, looks to be like a solid, character-filled oddity of cool.  At least that's what I got from the new trailer for the film.  Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular character, the film is reportedly based on Dave Van Ronk's posthumously published memoir "The Mayor of MacDougal Street," and tells the story of a struggling folk singer (Isaac) as he navigates his way through the New York music scene in the 1960's.

The trailer is chock full of Coen-isms, from quirky dialogue, detestable people, mean-spirited dialogue, and at least one punch is thrown.  Ahhhh, back in Coensville.  The film co-stars Carey Mulligan, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver, and F. Murray Abraham and looks to have the atmosphere of some of the filmmaking duo's better films.  I hadn't heard much until now, but you can color me impressed at this point.

Take a look:

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS is set to open on February 8, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: I'd love to see the Coen Brothers reunite with Nic Cage on something. Anything. Who would you like to see them work with?

Extra tidbit

Brad Pitt, I think their senses of humor bond well.

Holy wow. I can not wait for this. At first, I'll be honest, this didn't grab my attention much when I first heard about this... but that trailer has me sold. Why I had any doubts to begin with, I have no idea.

Hmm... aesthetically that's got more of the old-school Coenisms than most of their movies lately (except maybe "Burn After Reading"), mixed with the subdued drama of "A Serious Man". Glad to see Goodman back working with them. I really like Oscar Isaac, and '60s folk music. I wonder if they're going to do with that what they did with old-timey in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

But is it really coming Feb. 8th?

Oscar Isaac deserves roles like this after having played some tiny roles and some pretty poorly written villains in Robin Hood and Suckerpunch....I first saw him as an atomic hustler in PU239 and thought he was great. That movie has a great end by the way, anybody saw that radioactive hit?

Looks great

I eagerly await each new Coen Brothers film and this looks terrific. It's also cool to see the "Drive" reunion between Isaac and Mulligan. As for the extra tidbit, I'd also love to see them work with Nic Cage. And it'd be great to see them work with John Malkovich again.

Looks good

Maybe not in theaters, but I'll see it one way or another. Good to see John Goodman too. If you can help it, Coen Brother films cannot be missed

The trailer is, without a doubt, absolutely fantastic. I have to say, though, it makes me a bit nervous that the movie is being released in February. Almost any distributor would know that a Coen movie will always be in play for awards season - unless it's really bad. Let's hope that this isn't the case here.

Is everything hipster nowadays? Most overused word of the past 2 years when you want to put something down.
