First trailer for The Tempest is a sensory and talent overload
Wow, was not expecting that. The first trailer for Julie Taymor's THE TEMPEST has been released, and with it comes the most CGI ever brought the Shakespeare adaptation.
It stars Helen Mirren as a gender-flipped Prospera, but the massive cast also includes Russell Brand, Alfred Molina, Djimon Hounsou, David Strathairn, Ben Whishaw, Reeve Carney, Felicity Jones Chris Cooper, Alan Cumming and Tom Conti. Somehow, in a Shakespeare movie, Russell Brand is still is able to act like himself. Who knew?
For those of you who slept through AP English, here's the official synopsis:
In her big-screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s mystical thriller “The Tempest,” Academy Award-nominated Julie Taymor (”Across the Universe,” “Frida,” “Titus”) brings an original dynamic to the story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospero into the sorceress Prospera, portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren (”The Queen”). Prospera’s journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.
Just. Watch it. I'm dizzy.
