First trailer for Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past will give you goosebumps!

10.29.2013

The first trailer for X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST has been released, and it is just as epic as I imagined it would be. Two generations of X-Men, one broken future and a shit ton of mutants are featured in the trailer, and it is quite intense. Bryan Singer's film looks like it will be the biggest X-Men movie yet, but enough from me, who wants to watch the trailer? All of you? Thought so.

"We need you to hope again."

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST starring Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Omar Sy, and Lucas Till will be released on May 23rd, 2014.

I love how they used two of the best modern epic trailer music pieces out there.

Looks amazing! Of course you have a trailer with music from "Sunshine" and "The Thin Red Line" it's gonna make any trailer look amazingly awesome. Most excited I've ever been for a X-Men film.......ever!

Want to love it ....

...but..I didn't feel the "epic". It felt forced. And the plot wasn't very clear either....thought Days of Future Past was about going back using a time portal, not using some kind of mind-trick of Professor X.

Still neutral. Still waiting.

About everyone talking about the cues used...

Considering that the music for the actual movie is being done by John Ottman, who did X2, I believe that it will be quite good and fit with the action nicely. Music used in a trailer is supposed to convey whatever theme or emotion that the director wants and while it did feel a bit off for me, it certainly felt epic and that is what they were going for so I'd say it's a win for the advertising department. Whether the movie is good or not... I still have hope...

FWIW there is no music from Inception in the trailer. It is a song from the score for Sunshine by John Murphy and Journey to the Line from the Thin Red Line score by Hans Zimmer.

The footage looks awesome but I feel that by using such familiar music they may be giving some people the wrong impression of what the final product may be. I can already tell it has by some of the comments made here, the epicness of the music has struck their emotions but beware, the actual musical score may or may not be as grand as all the music that they borrowed for this trailer. That is why i'm being a bit cautious not to get ahead of myself quite yet.

Nice!

Teaser trailers just don't get much better than this. Gives you an epic feel without giving anything away. Rare thing for any trailer to accomplish. Hopefully the movie lives up to this awesome teaser. X-Men DoFP just jumped to my #1 must see film of the summer.

Sunshine Music makes anything Epic!!!

Seriously If you want epic that's the music too use although the Inception type music (or was it from the end of X-Men: First Class?) is good too. Anyway it already looks like one of the best movies of 2014. That's without showing all the action of tradition superhero films. Captain America looks Awesome but this is on a whole other level in terms of characters. That final shot (we need you to believe again) Brilliant! I'm thinking this will likely be the best X-Men movie ever.

Good teaser, not great...which is fine by me

I think this did the job of setting the tone and gravity of this movie while splashing enough of the characters; old and new. I expect the full trailer, once they have more of the shots and sentinel footage ready, to be the clincher that gets everyone on board. So far, so good singer...

Nicely cut trailer, good voiceovers, great music. The movie looks like a nice return to form for Mr. Singer who directed the best two films in the X-Men franchise.

um wut?

So im not sure what's going on in there. They send Wolverine back? Ok sure. I'm assuming that he's there to get Xavier and Co. to stop Kelly's assassination by Young Magneto. But there will still be Sentinels due to the assassination attempt? Solving nothing? So is the loose adaption of Days of Future past only like half the movie? And does that mean the scenes with old Xavier, Wolverine and Magneto in the dystopian future? You know, the future they are already supposed to be dead in. I have no

If they answered all of those questions in the trailer, wouldn't that just be another case of giving too much away? Less is more for me. Maybe show me a sentinel in the next trailer, but I don't want to know anymore about the story, or anything else.

@ Bob Loblaw: I'm all for not knowing as much of the story as possible but in the end this is still an adaption of sorts. All's im saying is this trailer confused the hell out of me when comparing it to the story its being adapted from, Days of Future Past.

@ TAE K: That's the thing. In the comics The Brotherhood try to assassinate Kelly. I can't recall if Magneto was there, it's been a while since i've read the Essentials. But in the trailer they show Magneto (i assume) stopping Mystique

I kinda laughed when the Pearl Harbor musical score kicked in. Its like they're trying to force feed us epic, the music in the beginning sounds like its from sunshine and the music at the end of the trailer is definitely from the last scene of Inception. That kinda shit really distracts me, I'd rather hear a piece of the original score with this new trailer. Music can really change the feeling and mood in a movie, so because of this i'm giving this trailer a neutral for now.

Love the angle

A wild, lawless, unstable character, which is Wolverine, has to regain the balance of one of the most influential characters in comic book history.

Wow.. I just went from incredibly stoked to seeing this trailer, to being ridiculously underwhelmed after watching it. I was expecting something much different and less chaotic. The colors in the film are all wrong and there is too much going on it seems. It doesn't feel like X-Men. .. However, I'm still going to watch.

Trainwreck.

Singer just inherently does not understand these characters or who they are. Plus I'm calling it, all future stuff happens in the first 10 minutes of the film, tons of characters, no introductions, and zero explanation for why the Prof is still alive. Then we have to spend the rest of the movie with the First Class crew ignoring the fact that the franchises don't connect properly at all.

Didn't they explain the professor being alive at both the beginning and the end of X3?
At the beginning the professor said someone with enough power could transfer its conscience to another body. At the end of the credits, he wakes up in a comatose body. What more explaining do you need, really.

Jesus Fucking Christ.

The downvote here isn't for this trailer, which was whatever, but for this site and for most of you. 90% of you people must feel some pathological need to push hyperbole further and further into the stratosphere with every fucking photo or trailer or trailer for a trailer or fucking audio clip or whispered rumor regarding any nerd-centric movie property in development. I honestly think some of you are masturbating as you watch these film trailers. Is it just completely unfulfilling unless you can whip yourself and others into a mouth-frothing frenzy over every sci-fi or comic book or sequel film in existence and every scrap of information? It's fucking crazy. Otherwise you must have to go back to engaging in your mundane and unfulfilling lives. The "writers" of this site are little to no better. Some are worse. The only one I have any respect for is Shirey because he seems like a fucking fairly normal human being.

I like movies. I like talking about movies. I enjoy smart, insightful and passionate debate about movies even when I'm in the minority of opinion. I can always learn something or see another POV from someone else. But this place and most of you people are just fucking ludicrous. You're nothing but cheerleaders, or mudslingers in the event that the fanboy world turns on something or someone. Nothing you ever came up with yourself, of course, because that would require thinking. There is nothing but mouth-breathing fanboy psychosis to be had here. I won't be back. None of this shit is going to fix or improve you or your life. They're just movies. They're just comic books. Wake the fuck up.

I hope again!!!

I am SO ready for this movie!!! I won't make any predictions that it'll be the best X-men film ever or any of that jazz, but I am confident in saying that this movie is going to be awesome!!! I will take my limited knowledge of the Days of Future Past story and keep it there . . . After I see the film, I'll go back and read up on the source material. I have a feeling that if people don't try to compare it to the original storyline, they are going to be blown away.

Another thing people don't seem to remember is that Bryan Singer and Sam Raimi were one of the 1st directors to take a dark and realistic approach to comic book films, even christopher nolan says in his interview that bryan singer was his inspiration for making batman begins really dark and realistic, thats why it had a similar atmosphere to xmen 1 and 2. He started the trend and it got played out, look at films such as quantum of solace, man of steel, amazing spider (movie sux), etc.

I disagree I think it looks amazing, being that it is only a teaser trailer. This is the teaser trailer that premiered at comic con with only 2 weeks of shooting and no CGI done yet so you would obviously not see any mutant powers or sentinels yet. Also if you want to see a bunch of fucking explosions of mutant power go watch xmen last stand or wolverine origins. This film looks like it is going for strong character progression and plot rather than a stupid and average as hell summer

This film looks like it is going for strong character progression and plot rather than a stupid and average as hell summer blockbuster like Man of Steel. If you notice in the trailer he already is giving fans what they want to see: a close enough resemblance to costume (look at hugh jackmans yellow and black armor in the trailer 0:47) and Easter Eggs at 0:57 which is Cyclops new visor from Marvel Now. Honestly this is presumably the last xmen film that bryan singer is going to direct and the last time the original xmen crew will appear. I think it looks better than Captain America 2 which looks just like GI JOE and the souless sequel to the shitty Amazing Spiderman 2.

I have admitted in the past that I have a bad feeling about this movie and am still not impressed w/ this trailer.

That out of the way, what's w/ all the people complaining about it being another grim, dark comic film? Have you not read or at least heard of the storyline this is based, errr, named after? It's about as dark as they get from the big X-Men stories . . .

Looks pretty good, awful bleak though. I know that CGI isn't done yet, but I want to see some Sentinels damn it. Honestly, this was more of a trailer just to highlight each character rather than to showcase the action of the movie.

I usually am respectful and will listen and then give a counter argument. But fuck it, I should just be brash dick now.

Talk about over-dramatic...

i personally think the entire series of films are average, but im still excited for this. this trailer is nowhere near as good as I assume most internet commenters are saying it is though.

Not a bad glimpse. I'm glad there weren't any jokes in it. I still hope Fassbender's & McAvoy's duo screentime isn't hurt by the bloated cast. They're phenomenal together as Charles and Eric.

I doubt it. Singer is by far a better director than Snyder, and anyone is a better writer than David Goyer. Even if Days of Future Past disappoints, I doubt it will reach the levels of suck that Man of Steel did.

I actually thought Singer's Superman Returns was much better than Man of Steel. Returns actually had a narrative, the characters had motivation, and the film had structure. Man of Steel only had 30 minutes of disjointed exposition & 90 minutes of repetitive CGI porn.

Returns was trying too hard to pay homage to Donner, and that was my biggest issue with it. I love Donner's film, but I wanted more from Superman than a love letter to Donner. Sadly, Man of Steel went with the Michael Bay

+1 for Singer being better than Snyder.

Also, Returns is a vastly superior movie to Man of Steel. MoS might have gotten fan fair right, but as a movie, as a story, it was incompetent on nearly every level. Though, it seems like some fanboys only care about the fan fair.

Yeah, films that focus on character & story tend to put the ADD generation to sleep these days. I guess that's why Snyder & Bay are so popular, they ignore all of that stuff and focus on fast cuts, explosions, and mindless destruction.

Out of the two directors, Singer wins hands down.

Superman Returns was mediocre, and Jack the Giant Slayer was bad. But everything else Singer has made ranges from masterpiece to damn good.

Snyder's best film was merely entertaining, but no more than that. Watchmen was mediocre, Suckerpunch was painfully bad, and Man of Steel was flat out awful.

Game on, Marvel.

In my humble opinion, The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel were both bitter disappointments. Trying far too hard to be "gritty" and "dark" that they lost the fun of the characters as well as any wit, charisma and even sometimes basic narrative logic. After being pleasantly surprised by The Wolverine taking a good step in the right direction, it looks as if Fox have realised what they have in their hands, and what it was they were fucking up. They've seemingly come a long way towards fixing that. I'm hoping that this is the strong send off for the original X-Men cast that they never got in X3. I had given up hope that there would be one more strong X-Men movie with those actors playing those characters again after the "reboot" of First Class......but here we are.

In my humble opinion, The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel were both compelling, dramatic, and engaging! They definitely set the tone and started a trend. Now you see Amazing Spiderman with a bit more drama, The Winter Soldier looks a bit more grittiness, and even Thor: The Dark World looks more darker. The "fun" comes from the travel and experience you have with the character, not with cheesy one-liners that's easy to chuckle on. X-Men: Days of Future Past, from the trailer, looks very

While I disagree with you about The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel (thought both were great), I do agree that this looks to be one of the best "Marvel" films to date. I think Fox has learned to let Singer do what he needs to do on this one and will hopefully result in the best X-Men film yet.

Completely agree. While TDKR wasn't nearly as horrible as Man of Steel, it still wasn't a very enjoyable film to watch.

So far I think X-Men 2, Batman Begins, & The Dark Knight have done the best at balancing serious drama with the fun comic book elements.

I think that's up for debate because in X2 Stryker says he hasn't seen Wolverine in 15 years and if X2 takes place sometime between 2000-2003 (it was released in 2003 but I think it was set shortly after the events in X-Men) then that would place Origins between 1985-1988. Also, Scott Summers was a teenager in Origins and a young man in X-Men. If he was a teenager in the early 70's he would have been much older in X-Men.

Well, it looks like they found a way to balance out the old with the new. That has me feeling better. I was hoping for some audible Dinklage, but that would naturally be followed by Sentinels, and, as mentioned below, there's a reason they didn't include those in the teaser.

"We Need You to Hope Again"

Has anyone been reading the All-New X-Men comic book? Do I even have to ask? All-New X-Men plays with a similar plot and ideas as this trailer. The past X-Men must restore hope in the present. Of course, we North Americans possibly need to hope again as well after the last fifteen years. So, the movie might have something to do with the audience's needs.
X-Men: Days of Future Past looks like something a fanboy wants to see. Singer and cast might very well do the storyline justice.

I'd be more excited if...

What made the comic version so engaging was that you knew the danger up front from the cover. Sentinels were everywhere, important characters were dead or maimed, etc. I think if we saw the sentinels, or if the trailer conveyed the dire circumstances, it would be way more thrilling. If you're not familiar with the comic storyline, this trailer would just make you say, "Oh, they wrote a story to bring the two generations together for a little adventure..." I'm also curious about the mutants that

Re-watch the end of Last Stand. It shows that the cure is not permanent by having Magneto move the metal chess piece slightly before cutting to credits. Thus, everyone else should have eventually regained their powers.

Great teaser!

So, I'm glad to see more positive responses regarding this trailer here. I noticed some negativity in other forums, but come on, this is a teaser trailer. I'm glad it was more character focused and am sure the next one will show the good stuff. This teased with the combining of the casts and the high stakes at play. Can't wait for this one!

The large cast doesn't bother me

X-Men films are meant to have a large cast of characters. The reason Last Stand was terrible is because it lacked focus which is something Singer has never had a problem with. This, Captain America, and Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, can't wait!

The only words that came to me is "Fuck yes"! I would have loved to see some sentinals in action, it is just the first trailer through. I think one of the ending shots in the trailer of Prof. X with the light being shined on him is definately from a sentinal finding him.

Think it'll set a standard higher than avengers bc it's not so silly. Singer showed how he can handle lots or characters in X2. My only problem with the trailer was I wish they showed more of the future war and at least ONE sentinel or kinda glimpse of a leg. Also, who are all of magnetos guys? Were all his guys killed? Toad? Saber tooth?

I want it to be good, but Singer is directing. I feel he always brings a touch of blandness to ideas and characters that aren't bland to begin with.

yeah that whole blandness of X-Men, or X-Men2 or Usual Suspects....oh wait you don't know much about movies you say? Never mind then.

Singer only delivered one of the greatest comic book movies of all-time (X-MEN 2) and also started the entire comic-to-film craze in the first place 13 years ago.

Elder@ I wouldnt say he started it but he did give it the push that it needed to spark everyones love for superhero films. I can never understand the hate for Singer. He delievered two great Xmen films, with one being one of the greatest superhero films in the genre.

@ Elder & Half.. I concur with you guys. Adapting the X-Men from comics to the big screen is no easy task, and Singer has certainly delivered.

Go back and watch them (X1, X2 (and let's remember that he scripted X3, not Ratner)), they're fairly boring. Then go back and watch Blade (which precedes X1 by 2 years and actually kick started the comics-film (if you actually know anything about film)) and see how that holds up in comparison.

I'm not a Singer fanboy. He sucks at action movies, and no, the first 2 minutes of X2 doesn't make up for the lack of action in the rest of the movie. Watch Valkrye and Superman Returns if you want to

Watch Valkrye and Superman Returns if you want to see how bad of a director he is when he isn't under studio control. I also blame Singer for reigning in Vaughn (a much superior director) on First Class and backseat directing, a reason Vaughn didn't come back for this movie.

I tell you what, if this movie makes more than $500 million domestically (like The Dark Knight did), then I'll concede that Singer knows what he's doing. Considering his highest grossing movie (X2) only hit $230 million domestically AND was beat out by X3 by almost $100 million, I highly doubt that it's going to happen. But who knows, pigs may fly yet.

Oh, and everyone knows that Superman: The Movie (Donner) is the greatest comic book movie of all time. Anything else is just stupid and delusional.

right bc they should all make popcorn flicks, where people communicate somehow subliminally without ever being shown how or why, have a wacky one-liner for each response and no one is ever in fear of dying. Yeah you should stick to watching Avengers

Probably because being a superhero would be the worst job ever. I thought X-Men First Class showed this perfectly that even if you save the day, there will always be people out there that fear and hate you.

Sure, because the comics are all "Pow" "Biff" "Bam"!

I like it when they take the films and stories seriously, because the source material takes them seriously.

Seems pretty bleak.....

I'm still skeptical, but in my opinion this movie seems pretty bleak. And how do we go from The Wolverine to complete and utter apocalyptic future? As long as they explain it properly ill be down, but I have the right to be skeptical. What with all these movies using a redemption if the Inception theme Time?!?

@fury159

This version actually is "Time" from Inception or at least closer. If you listen to the both of them, "Journey to the Line" is very similar but not the same. "Time" is like Zimmer took "Journey" and made it bigger or more epic for Inception. Hence it's use in trailers like this.

But enough about the music. The trailer looked amazing.

It is definitely "Journey to the Line". The dominant cue of "Journey" is a little bit different from the one used in "Time" and also: in "Time" certain "Background noises" are interwoven into the song.

BTW: Always happy to hear "Jouney to the line". One of the greatest pieces Zimmer has ever done. Much more epic than "Time" (not just due to running length)

It looks like Singer knows exactly what he's doing. Yes, there seems to be an immense swirl of characters and elements but if there's a central focus to hold it all together, this could turn out incredible. I really got the sense that the X-Men movies were building to this point, to this pay-off. Fingers crossed and all; this is a good early indicator.

Looks Good!

I've enjoyed all the X-Films (Origins is the exception) and this looks really good. I cannot wait till it opens.

I really hated most of First Class...

and thought that the first two could have been much better, but this looks pretty good. I will give it a shot. Patrick Stewart is amazing as Xavier. If they had only nailed the rest of the cast as well as that.

But wouldn't you know they would make Wolverine the time traveler instead of Kitty. They need to give up on the idea that Wolverine HAS to be the center of every X-Men film. After this I hope the rights revert back to Marvel.

wow yeah you win stupidest post of the day. I know yo being such a prolific film maker can tell me what changes you would have done and how you would have justified them to the studio for more financial backing. If Kitty were the main character I wouldn't be watching, she has no real story of struggle and how would it revert back to marvel? Oh and then he could do a bunch of PG violence and communicate with the rest of the team by just talking into his hand while pressing his other finger

cricker, for those of us old enough to have grown up with the source material, Kitty being the time traveler did not make her the main character. The whole point of the X-Men is that it doesn't have a main character. It's an ensemble. And your argument against Kitty being the traveler is "She has no real story of struggle"? LOL. I'm sure Wolverine's "struggle" is what sells you a ticket to these "Wolverine and his mutant friends" films, but for me it is love of the comics and characters I

And yes, it is disappointing to see the characters mishandled. The reason I want the right to revert to Marvel is so the X-Men movies can start over, possibly with the REAL First Class (Scott, Jean, Hank, Warren, and Bobby), and have the cast fit the characters better than in Singer's films. And so they could interact with the rest of the Marvel Universe. And could you please point out the R rated violence in the prior X-Men films, since you are so worried about "PG violence" if the right revert back to Marvel. After that I couldn't decipher your ramblings, so excuse me if I let them stand on their own without response.

"I don't want your suffering! I don't want your future!"

This looks epic and I love the serious depressing tone of the trailer. This will definitely be the best X-Men film yet with all of the talent, characters, and the storyline they are using. Also so excited to see Stewart and McKellen back as Xavier and Magneto. It's been WAY TOO LONG.

Just wow

The tone and pace really gives that hopeless future feel throughout the trailer. Liked how this trailer is a more emotional / character driven one, which I'm sure the second and third teasers will be non-stop action with Sentinels. Loved seeing Bishop with his futuristic weapon and that scene with the protestors, gives me the feeling Trask influences Washington that initiating Project Wide Awake is the only solution for the mutant problem.
