Firth is Orwell?

George Orwell is perhaps the greatest chronicler of social injustice and totalitarianism in the history of English literature. Novels like "Animal Farm" and "1984" have become cultural benchmarks and his work as a political journalist has helped shed light on the perennially murky. His novel "Homage to Catalonia", a personal account of his experiences and observations in the Spanish Civil War is being adapted for the screen, with Kevin Spacey and Colin Firth set to star.

CATALONIA will be directed by Hugh Hudson, who hasn't directed a major motion picture since I DREAMED OF AFRICA in 2000 and is best known for directing CHARIOTS OF FIRE, which won the Oscar for best picture in 1981. CATALONIA will highlight the relationship between Orwell and Georges Kopp, the engaging commander of the Anarchist brigade, which Orwell joined while fighting Stalinism in Spain. It's still unclear who will play who, but after seeing a photo of Orwell, our money's on Firth as the man with the golden pen. What do you think?
Extra Tidbit: Filming is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2010 in England, Spain and then Buenos Aires, Montevideo and Uruguay.
