Fly Hanks to the moon

My mother can’t get over her heroin addiction. My brother can’t get over the girl he lost his virginity to. I can’t get over my love for melted Havarti, and Tom Hanks can’t get over his obsession with the moon. The greatest actor of our generation (disagree with me, I dare you) is set to star in and as MAJOR MATT MASON, a live-action feature based on the vintage Mattel action figure.

Having originated in 1966, the toy line is based on Matt Mason, who led an astronaut team that worked on the moon and lived in a space station. The toy reached a peak in popularity in the buildup to the first manned moon mission, which, if memory serves correct, featured Hanks as the first man on the moon. Or was it Gary Sinise?

SPEED scribe Graham Yost will write the script with Hanks’ Playtone is set to produce. The film follows a burgeoning trend of studios scooping up popular toys and turning them into feature films. MONOPOLY, CANDYLAND, STRETCH ARMSTRONG and OUIJA are currently on the way. And if a man of Hanks’ stature is hopping on the bandwagon, this lack of creativity on Hollywood’s part can only be a good thing, right? RIGHT?!?!?!
