Focus Features and Tom Hanks jump on board for Tom Tykwer and the Wachowski’s Cloud Atlas

While COBALT NEURAL 9 waits around, it looks like the Wachowski’s and Tom Tykwer (RUN LOLA RUN) will be moving forward with the adaptation of CLOUD ATLAS.

Tom Hanks has officially signed on to star in the film. The adaptation of David Mitchell’s novel consist of six interconnected stories. Focus Features International has signed on to handle international sales and distribution of the film overseas. Warner Bros. will take care of distribution in the US. The rights will be sold at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.

Here’s a synopsis of the film courtesy of Deadline:

“An epic story of humankind in which the actions and consequences of our lives impact one another throughout the past, present and future as one soul is shaped from a murderer into a savior and a single act of kindness ripples out for centuries to inspire a revolution.”

This project has been rumored for awhile with the Wachowski’s and Tykwer writing and co-directing. Several stars have also been rumored to be attached: Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Ian McKellan, and Natalie Portman. Shooting will start in September.
