Forbidden movie coming

J. Michael Straczynski (CHANGELING, “Babylon 5”) has signed on to write the script for the Warner Bros. adaptation of FORBIDDEN PLANET. Joel Silver is working on the project for WB, who took over after DreamWorks put the project in turnaround (David Twohy had been developing). The original 1956 film follows a space crew sent to investigate the disappearance of a group of scientists sent on a colony expedition. When they arrive they find only two humans left – Dr. Morbius (who has doubled his intellect) and his sexed up daughter Altaira. Shortly after landing they find themselves victim of a large, mysterious monster attacking their camp. JMS, who has written for “Spider-Man,” “Thor” and “Fantastic Four,” has a number of scripts in the works in Hollywood including Paul Greengrass’ THEY MARCHED INTO SUNLIGHT and THE FLICKERING LIGHT for Ron Howard. He’s just getting started working on the script so don’t expect production to begin just yet (and I’m sure Warner Bros. will be paying close attention to THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL while deciding to greenlight this film).
