Forest Whitaker may join Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner in Story of Your Life

I’m a big fan of PRISONERS director Denis Villeneuve, so it’s only natural that I would be very excited for any project he presents us with in the future. One of several films Denis has in the works, STORY OF YOUR LIFE, has already assembled itself quite the cast and is looking to add even more star-power; Variety is reporting that Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker is in talks to board the sci-fi drama.

The film, which is being written by Eric Heisserer, is based on a short story by Hugo and Nebula award winning author Ted Chiang. The film’s synopsis sounds quite interesting:

The story is set in motion when alien crafts land around the world and an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit.

Forest Whitaker would join the previously cast Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner but at this time there are no indications of who (or what) his character could be. We desperately need more quality sci-fi in our theaters but thankfully STORY OF YOUR LIFE is one of several upcoming sci-fi dramas I’m very much looking forward to. In addition to STORY OF YOUR LIFE Denis will be bringing us SICARIO, a crime drama starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Brolin which will premiere September 18, 2015; Denis is also attached to the BLADE RUNNER sequel. Here’s hoping he’s only at the start of a long and illustrious career.

Whitaker next film, DOPE, will be hitting theaters on June 19, 2015 for a limited release but I think I’m looking forward to SOUTHPAW a little more. Check out (or maybe you shouldn’t) the revealing “do I even need to see the movie now” trailer below or wait until its July 31, 2015 premiere.
