Forrest Gump will be returning to IMAX theaters for one week only

07.29.2014

FORREST GUMP is one of those movies that can be quoted by the masses. Due to its episodic nature, you can pretty much just start it from any point and enjoy it the rest of the way through. That says something about a film, and it's re-playability. If you never had the chance, or would like to re-experience GUMP in theaters, you'll have the opportunity to do so come September 5th. Paramount Pictures and IMAX are bringing the seminal film to cinemas for a one-week only affair.

My father, who worked for a radio station at the time, always had the opportunity to check out sneak previews of films. Inevitably, if the film was great, he would drag my sister and I to see it (regardless of the rating, bless his heart). FORREST GUMP was one of those films. While it is now an event of sorts, and removing the popularity and cultural effects it's had may prove difficult, I would like to go back to that time where it was just a movie and experience it once more.

FORREST GUMP will be released in IMAX theaters for one week only on September 5, 2014.

We have "classic" films that play every month at our theater, the likes of Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, but if I'm not the only one in the theater then there will be a few others at best, these movies don't sell seats, chock it up to home video or what but they're not big. I'm not saying this isn't a great idea, I love seeing old movies back again on screens, I just don't think even a decent number will even show up for the show. Am I wrong?

Sadly, you're not wrong, that's why it only has a one week engagement, same thing when Raiders and Wizard of Oz were on IMAX. And that ticks me off! Personally, I'd love to see older films on the big screen from before I was born. I have a theater locally, but they project blu rays which is dumb, but there's an AFI theater near me in DC and they'll play older prints. Jaws on the big screen was awesome....

Funny, just this morning I saw a guy wearing a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. cap & thought, "who gives a crap about this movie anymore?"

I don't understand why this would be released in IMAX format. I love the movie but I can't see it being enhanced at all. Ghostbusters' rerelease might be cool in IMAX...if it were to be released that way.

The Raiders of the Lost Ark IMAX print was incredible. Granted Gump isn't Raiders, but it just makes for a better experience especially since so many theaters these days don't seem to give a shit about the up keep of their regular screens. I'd love to more older rereleases on IMAX...

There are some great shots in Forrest, especially the running and his time in the war. I dont totally agree with it but I can see why based on its amazing cinematography. Plus its a great movie turning 20, give it a little love man.

I LOVE Indiana Jones but Forrest is almost as epic in scope, thats just a fact.
