Four teaser trailers for Pixar's Monsters University come out of the closet

06.20.2012

Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and Sully (John Goodman) are going back to the closet in MONSTERS UNIVERSITY and today we have four slightly different teaser trailers to keep you up at night, cowering behind your covers.  The prequel follows Mike and Sully during their college years where they studied to learn the trade of scaring up screams.

Returning castmembers aside from Crystal and Goodman include Steve Buscemi as Randall, John Ratzenberger as Abominable, Kelsey Grammar as Mr. Waternews, Frank Oz as Fungus, and a few new voices, including Rob Riggle and Ken Jeong.  It's the first full-length feature for director Dan Scanlon, who directed the short Mater and the Ghostlight.

Get spooked:

MONSTERS UNIVERSITY opens on June 21, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: The concept of a prequel to this is fun, but isn't it kind of counterproductive to the finale of Monsters, Inc., which has the monsters basically becoming comedians instead of...well, monsters? I feel like Monsters University should be much darker and possibly directed by Eli Roth...

Eh...The First one

was really good, but I would have much rather taken an Incredibles 2 before this. I know they are waiting for a right story. A Monsters Inc in college just seems pointless. Rather them move forward then takes steps backwards. Their origins of friendship really don't seem that important. They are friends, we get it.

I loved the first one.

I remember seeing it in theaters. Can't believe that was over ten years ago?! Geeze... Anyway, my only concern with this one is that it's a prequel. Part of me would have rather seen them ten years after the events of the first film, perhaps with a grown-up Boo. I guess putting them in a college setting strikes me as being sort of gimmicky. And frankly if this were two years ago I'd have been saying I had blind faith in Pixar (Toy Story 3 was the epitome of being able to trust in Pixar!) but

Hope this is more TS3 than Cars 2... :-/

BTW, is it just me or does it sound like they made Billy Crystal's voice a bit 'higher' in these trailers? Maybe to make him sound younger? Weird thing is, John Goodman sounds the same...?

Looks like more fun than I was expecting. Granted, we have no plot in these, but I'm hopeful. Cars 2 is the only Pixar I haven't seen, and I feel slightly guilty about that...

My homework ate my dog.

All I can think is I'll miss James Coburn as Mr. Waternews. Though Grammar is a decent enough replacement.

Here's hoping that it's not too much of a retread.

I've been looking forward to this movie for a while. Monsters INC was one of my favorites. I REALLY hope this lives up to the original! The trailer seemed pretty good!

What was not mentioned is that disney at the same time is working on a monsters inc rollercoaster that will be debuting not long after that movie hits. That probably is part of the reason why it was put on the back burner in favor of other projects.

I'm a huge Pixar fan, but I'm hoping this movie is good. It seems like they made it for fun, like someone thought Monsters in college was funny, just like cars that are spies. I can't think of what the story will be, but I'm glad its not a prequel b/c the first movie has a great final scene.

Looks Good!

It took me a while to understand that Sully was say, "I love College" at the end haha. It sounded like "Alo Callas". I thought it was some kind of viral message haha. Thanks Christopher Nolan.
