Fourteen more Transformers movies are in development

04.05.2017

Fourteen?! That may seem to be a tad excessive, but the TRANSFORMERS franchise has continued to be very reliable when it comes to bringing in the big-bucks. Still...fourteen! While speaking with MTV at CinemaCon, Michael Bay revealed that there are fourteen stories written for the TRANSFORMERS franchise, which includes both main saga movies and spin-offs.

Of course there's no guarantee that we'll actually see all these movies, but it seems that the TRANSFORMERS writers room, consisting of Akiva Goldsman (A BEAUTIFUL MIND), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (IRON MAN), Ken Nolan (BLACK HAWK DOWN) Zak Penn (READY PLAYER ONE), Lindsey Beer (BARBIE), Geneva Robertson-Dworet (TOMB RAIDER), Christina Hodson (BUMBLEBEE), Steven DeKnight (Daredevil), Jeff Pinkner (Fringe) and Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (ANT-MAN) certainly hasn't been idle over the past two years. Following the release of TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT, the next TRANSFORMERS movie on the slate will be BUMBLEBEE, a spin-off centered around the much-loved robot in the years before he joined forces with Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). The spin-off will be directed by Travis Knight (KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS) and will be released on June 8, 2018.

There's been a bit of a running joke regarding Michael Bay and his frequent declarations of "this will be my final TRANSFORMERS movie," but it seemed that THE LAST KNIGHT really would be Bay's final outing. However, when asked by MTV whether he would actually be leaving the director's chair behind, Bay seemed to be having second thoughts as he wouldn't commit either way, merely saying that he was having fun editing THE LAST KNIGHT. Sigh. Even if Bay doesn't return for another TRANSFORMERS sequel, he seems keen on taking the helm of one of the spin-off movies, so, whether you like it or not, Michael Bay's association with the franchise will likely continue.

TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT is set for a June 23, 2017 release.

What he actually said was...

He had 14 screenwriters in his Transformers think tank, and they came up with 14 different stories.
That's it.

If the franchise is going to move forward and expand into a Transformers-Hasbro universe, they need to start to consistently release quality films. So far, it's been a case of diminishing returns (that first one is excellent). These also don't need to be almost three hour "epics". However -- there is a lot of talent in that writing room, so I do have faith that they can turn things around. Time will tell!

Being a huge defender of the first one, and enjoying the second and third. I'm done. Didn't see part 4 and won't see 5. But I'm in the minority. Because as much as people bitch about these, Universal has 14 billion dollars (if this 14 more movie thing is true) that says everyone will still go out and watch them despite all the whining. They don't care if they're good, they care if they're successful. And they are very, very successful.

I hope Michael Bay directs them all...

Just leave him over here with Transformers and he doesnt have to ruin any movies I might actually want to see.

I grew up with the Transformers when they came out in the eighties. I wouldn't mind seeing more movies only if they get some great writers and a director who knows what the hell they're doing. Michael clearly isn't that director and fourteen more films? Are you kidding? This isn't the James Bond franchise but the Transformers deserve better than what Michael has been doing with our beloved bots. Don't do a remake but find a way to fill all the plot holes Michael and the writers have given us.

Please do justice to this once promising franchise before Michael decided to be an ass and let ego get the best of him.
