FOX close to greenlighting new season of The X-Files; may film this summer

03.23.2015

The X-Files Chris Carter David Duchovny Gillian Anderson

Back in January it was reported that FOX was considering bringing back The X-Files, and now TV Wise has learned the network is "close to giving an official green-light" to a new season of the sci-fi series. According to the site's sources, FOX "has settled on a 'short-stack' order for the revival" and it will more than likely be less than ten episodes. Sources also say the network "is aiming to make a big announcement just ahead of their upfront presentation in New York City this coming May."

It's not a done deal yet, but stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are expected to return for the new run, and if FOX is able to work around their schedules production on it could start as early as this summer. Creator Chris Carter will write and direct the new episodes, and will also serve as executive produce.

So it looks like a limited-run revival of The X-Files may actually happen. What would you like to see in the new episodes? Storylines from the previous seasons resolved? Mulder and Scully completely ignoring the events from THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE? Sound off below!

Happy about this... Enjoyed the second movie, but it really felt like an amazing episode of the X-Files. If Carter and team have more ideas for a short season, I think they will still have the writing abilities to give fans what they want.

OH YEA

I prefer a 'short stack' of ep. like what cable does, anywhere from 8- to 10 ep. Ideas get a bit strained with 22 season order.
Though what I really excited about is maybe we can see a return of Millennium! Bring back Frank Black.

Yeah and if not, bring back Lance Henriksen in something! I used to love that guy.

Speaking of Quantum Leap. I always thought it would be a great episode to have Scott Bakula leap into Scully and fix something for Mulder.

sounds like..... AGENT CARTER and reboot of TWIN PEAKS

a 7-9 episode run? it sure sounds like Showtime's Twin Peaks revival and Agent Carter series that wasnt a full blown series, just a mini- series.... I think that with most of the dangling plotlines, just say that over time, those wrapped up and get on with something new.
my idea was always to turn Mulder into the next "X" informant but nobody ever listens to me.

Bringt it, but

cut the conspiracy crap. I prefer some nice stand alone episodes or a True Detective type story arc with a proper ending. A fresh start would be great.

This has the potential to be fun

My only hope is that it's truly a limited run, like a mini series with one contained story. Also, I think they should put this on FX instead of Fox, so they have a lot more creative freedom and less censorship.

As much as I love the X-Files - the stand alone episodes and the early mythology - much like lost, they really didn't have the end of their overall story thought out when they hatched so many ideas in tandem. For me I'd rather they didn't tie themselves in more knots trying to resolve the mess and get back to some good original ideas. I wouldn't even mind if we got a string of standalone episodes. Either that or give us a nice fresh arc.

to little, to late

The X-Files craze died of to many seasons and a shitty second film (they didn't know what to do of their kid, so they simply killed it ? WTF ?!). And the Colonisation Arc was supposed to conclude LAST YEAR ! So, only if this revival takes place in 2014, closing the arc and only if the bad taste in my mouth from the last movie is erased with a 'it never happened', will I be interested.

Great news. It'll be great to see Duchovny and Anderson back kicking ass again.

Dream come true

For the longest time this is my favorite TV show! Loved the mysteries! Loved the atmosphere! And I especially loved Mulder & Scully! I always hoped they would do something to help tie up Loose ends! This is the best news I've heard in a long time!

YES!

One of my top 5 shows of all time is coming back!
Hopefully they won't announce the thing and then delay it because of money issues like it happened to Twin Peaks... let's hope for it go smoothly like the revival for 24... next revival should be Quantum Leap!!!

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully they will finally tie up some of the loose ends they've failed to do so thus far. I also feel exactly the way you do about Quantum Leap. I wasn't satisfied at all with the ending to that series. It was way too depressing and in an unnecessary way. They were supposed to bring it back a while ago but the plot didn't sound particularly interesting and probably wouldn't have resolved anything from the original series.

This is Great News!

I love it that Mulder and Scully are coming back. That also means we're getting closer to the tv series being released on blu-ray. I can't wait for this. Woohoo!!!

I want to see a resolution to the colonization arc. The finale really wrote them in a hole.

Was a massive X Files fan back in the day...bought the videos, episode guide books (for the first few seasons, anyway) even the Mark Snow CD single :o) It went downhill when Duchovny left with Anderson phoning in her performances thereafter. For the life of me I don't understand what happened in the final seasons despite watching it all playout - what happened to the bounty hunter, the bees, the black ooze - it all seemed to get ditched for another story - that final episode...still bothers

Whilst I don't remember the exact words spoken by Mulder I do recall thinking WTF has happened to this show.

I hope they don't forget to include Mitch Pileggi as Skinner!

Also, am I alone in thinking Doggett got shortchanged at the end of the series? Get Robert Patrick back in!
