Fox confirms Prometheus sequel to be Alien: Covenant plus first synopsis!

11.16.2015

A few days ago we caught word that the PROMETHEUS sequel, dubbed PARADISE: LOST, may have received a title change. Looks like that was the case as Twentieth Century Fox has just confirmed it with the above picture, as well as a story synopsis!

The synopsis for ALIEN: COVENANT:

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

We're all a little bummed that Neill Blomkamp's pseudo-ALIENS sequel has been shelved for the time being, but something has me really curious to see why Ridley Scott has such a hard-on for these PROMETHEUS sequels. At the very least, it looks like he's gotten rid of what made PROMETHEUS flawed, and kept one of the best aspects intact. Namely Michael Fassbender. Here's hoping this new crew has more characters audiences can actually give a shit about!

ALIEN: COVENANT will hit theaters on October 6th, 2017.

The more Scott talks, the more this thing seems doomed. The Martian was based on a book, so Scott had a template written by someone else to work off of with that film. However, if he's overseeing all the creative choices with this film, (like in Prometheus) than I think we can guarantee that shit will just go off the rails yet again. The more the years go by the more I realize that he had success with Alien because he was working with a simple yet effective concept that lent itself to his skill-set. Now he's more ambitious, but he keeps letting the material get away from him and I don't think he can handle reeling it in and keeping things grounded.

Probably too late because no one will read this article, but I just noticed this.
Same original writer for Prometheus wrote his own Sci-Fi space movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt coming out next year.

What!? Killing off a character who survived at the end of the previous film in between the start of the sequel? Where would the Alien series get such an awful idea?

Few questions

1) Is Shaw not returning or do we later discover she is being held captive or already dead?
2) Why is a colony ship exploring the edge of the galaxy to find a new planet to inhabit? Did they get lost in the process or did something gone wrong that forces them to stop at this alien planet?
3) How did David get his body or a body?
4) Will Scott live long enough to make this into a complete trilogy?

I'm betting this is set a looooooooong time after Prometheus and Shaw has long since passed, leaving David alone.

I'm really excited to see Fassbender give a performance just using his head.
