Fox wins rights to swing Machete

I’ve been hearing some very early things out of Austin and Hollywood that Fox is quite pleased with PREDATORS, the Robert Rodriguez produced reboot/sequel/whatever-you-wanna-call-it. Perhaps then it’s that happiness (mixed with some of that extra AVATAR cash lying around) that caused Fox to pony up the cash to win the bidding war for another Rodriguez produced flick, MACHETE. Fox beat out Paramount and Lionsgate for the domestic distribution rights to the movie that stars Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Steven Seagal.

Rodriguez was able to get funding for the film by selling international rights to the film to Sony before production began, allowing him to make the project without studio restrictions. It’s unclear when MACHETE might hit theaters but it wrapped filming last fall and presumably could be ready to go as early as late Spring (can you imagine a MACHETE sneak peek in Austin for SXSW?).
