Universal has been attempting to get a feature-film based on Battlestar Galactica off the ground for quite some time with a variety of filmmakers, the most recent being Bryan Singer (X-MEN: APOCALYPSE). With Singer now moving on to other projects, Universal is in the process of putting together a new team to hopefully get things going once again on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Variety reports that Lisa Joy (HBO's Westworld) has been tapped to pen the screenplay and that they're looking at Francis Lawrence (THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE) to direct the picture, but that discussions with Lawrence are still in the very early stages. Roland D. Moore's excellent remake of the series has certainly set a high bar for any further Battlestar Galactica adaptations, but hopefully that will only inspire Universal to step up their game and put a different spin on the Galactica story. Francis Lawrence is also attached to direct an adaptation of The Odyssey for Lionsgate, which could span more than one film. It's been a while since we last heard about THE ODYSSEY, but the plan was to kick off production sometime this year.

If Francis Lawrence doesn't take the gig, who would you like to see direct BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?

Editing, JoBlo, editing....

Check yer names again JoBlo...it's "Ronald Moore" not "Roland Moore".
And with the overwhelming preponderance of BSG Youtube vids out there, the only thing you could find was the opening credits for the 1979 show? Aw, COME ON....Bear McCreary could eat his piano and fart a better tune than this...

Moore's version..

..started with a bang and was wildly promising, but it ended with a screw you and exposed the whole endeavor as hollow. Would love to see a new take on the original, not campy, but clever....

If they use the original TV designs i.e. Cylons etc with todays FX it could be incredible.

Cool

There are things I like about Lawrence's version of "I Am Legend," but overall I felt like it was a missed opportunity. I was pretty hesitent about him taking over The Hunger Games, especially after the first movie proved to be better than expected, but he really did do a pretty commendable job. I could see him being a good fit for this.

Moore's version was too dull and mopey.

I'd be interested if they went back to the original novelization, as there's some interesting ideas in there that never made it into the 1978 TV show. If they model the narrative around the Exodus story as the original show was, and play heavy into that ancient aliens vibe, it could be quite good.
