Last month we learned that Francis Lawrence would continue his working relationship with Lionsgate and THE HUNGER GAMES producer Nina Jacobson by helming an adaptation of The Odyssey by Homer. At that time, it was up in the air whether or not this adaptation would consist of a single film or be the start of a multi-film franchise; today we found out that it's definitely the latter.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer revealed today that the plan is to develop at least two movies from the material saying that "our deal with Francis contemplates more than one movie," while Motion Picture Group co-chairman Rob Friedman added that "we have high goals for this one, we’re feeling very, very bullish.Francis Lawrence will direct the film(s) from a screenplay by MOCKINGJAY writer Peter Craig.

With THE HUNGER GAMES franchise coming to a close this year, it seems as though Lionsgate is hungry to get a new franchise off the ground as soon as possible. Lionsgate has put this on a fast track with the plan is to begin production early next year, right after the filmmakers complete promotion of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2. The final installment of THE HUNGER GAMES franchise will hit theaters on November 20, 2015.

Ahhhhhhhh

I hope they don't make it into some PG-13 shit lovefest :( I loved the odyssey and myths in general and I hope they make it R but I know it won't be. But Lawrence I always have faith in, even if the hunger games is shit.

If ever there was a time to bring The Odyssey to the screen, now is that time.

I would be on board with bringing Sean Bean back. While Troy is far from a great movie (though it does contain a pretty memorable sword fight), Bean could pull a Ryan Reynolds-as-Deadpool and still do fine.

Not that there aren't other, equally-capable actors. I'd imagine what would sell this is the story itself, and not who they get to play the role. I mean, it's HOMER'S FRICKIN' ODYSSEY!

Can we please have Sean Bean back as Odysseus?

Or is it really that far out of the question? I love Sean Bean in anything, and in this way there can be some spiritual continuation with Wolfgang Petersen's TROY.

No shit, if any of you mongoloids read the story you would realize it's a massive work that needs multiple films.

Good.

More sex, less clashing is my preference.
There is nothing as boring as a rousing speech followed with a CGI battle.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were broken into three movies. The Odyssey is a huge book/story. I know it's a long-shot but Sean Bean reprising his role as Odysseus would be pretty neat.
