Frank Grillo teases his Captain America: The Winter Soldier character and working for Marvel

Actor Frank Grillo has been slowly making a name for himself, particularly with 2011's WARRIOR and THE GREY and is next primed to become a household name with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, where he'll play Brock Rumlow, who most comic enthusiasts know is the alias for the villain known as Crossbones. Although Grillo has yet to even say the name "Crossbones" in any press (that I've seen, anyway), the actor alludes that there is much more to ol' Rumlow, including a potential presence in future films as WINTER SOLDIER is an "origin" film for certain characters. Speaking to Crave Online, Grillo also talks about working for Marvel and what a tremendous opportunity it is. Read on:

On making the "leap" into a Marvel film:

"For any actor, it’s huge and you really get an understanding of that when you see guys like [Robert] Redford show up to do a role. What’s happening now is I think since all the Marvel movies had such a wide range of viewers globally that you’d be crazy not to want to be involved on some level with the Marvel people. They do it like nobody else. For me it’s a great opportunity because it’s an international film. It just raises your exposure that much more."

On his presence in the film:

"…It’s an origin film. You meet people who are going to be around for a while, so they introduce the characters. It’s almost like it’s a series. It’s fun. I can’t say very much about it because Marvel’s very strict about what you’re allowed to say. The movie, we’ve seen bits of it, and it is spectacular."

On whether Marvel has big plans for Brock Rumlow in the future:

"They do actually. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see if the fans respond to Brock and how it goes."

Crossbones is a great character in the comics and makes for a great, vicious villain for Captain America (and The Winter Soldier). How much of that will translate into the film is unknown, although if the "elevator battle" is any indication, which was shown at SDCC and in the IMAX screenings of THOR: THE DARK WORLD, the rivalry looks to be in place and Grillo feels like an absolutely perfect fit for the character. My anticipation level for this is at its peak.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER hits theaters on April 04, 2014.
