Frank Marshall says George Lucas is not writing Indy 5 but that Jurassic Park 4 is closer than you think

Jul. 24, 2012by: George Merchan

We heard from Frank Marshall yesterday when he spoke a bit about the potential future of the BOURNE series, but that isn't the only franchise the famed producer is connected to. In an interview with CraveOnline, Marshall debunked some info regarding the writing of INDIANA JONES 5 as well as given an early report on what's happening with JURASSIC PARK 4.

According to director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford, George Lucas was supposedly already at work on a follow-up to KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. But now Marshall is saying that isn't so!

"As far as I know he's not writing a fifth Indy. I think he's thinking about ideas but he's certainly not writing one. We'd love to keep the series going but again it's got to be a really good story. They're hard to do."

Indeed they are, Frank. I don't think any of us want to endure another CRYSTAL SKULL.

As for the next JURASSIC PARK, sequel talk has never really amounted to more than that. Today's not really any different, but the talk seems positive! Here's Marshall on the fourth film in the series:

"It's got new life. It's in development. It's got new life. I can tell you that that is moving forward."

See? Positive! But what will the dinosaur adventure be about? Reports over the years - which originally sprang from a totally awesome but bonkers script drafted by scribes William Monahan and John Sayles - indicated that JURASSIC PARK 4's plot would revolve around weaponized dinosaurs developed by the government. Director Joe Johnston (who is currently attached to the project) said a couple of years ago that that (unfortunately) wouldn't be the story, and now Marshall is further confirming that.

"'No, no, that's another rumor,' Marshall said about the armed dinosaur idea. 'That's not it.'"

Sigh. What's a man got to do to see velociraptors with shoulder mounted canons?

Am I the only one...

When saw the article titled Jurassic Park along with Ford's face on the main news page, was REALLY hoping for an Indy (a-k-a Harrison Ford) perticipation in the JP sequel?

This is good news, but...

Joe Johnston needs to get the fuck off this project. It's been 11 years since the last one, and we deserve something epic for waiting so long, not something mediocre or "passable." Bring back Spielberg!

Indiana Jones V: The Apology....

Personally, I'd love to see another Indy movie myself. As for Jurassic Park, I could take it or leave it.

With all due respect to Harrison Ford, who is one of my favorite actors, maybe it's time to hang up the whip. Raiders of the Lost Ark was made 31 years ago. He's over 70 years old now. Sean Connery moved on from Bond. Maybe Indiana should take a lesson from his father.

Fresh blood needed

Get a few young bloods (e.g. 80's movie geeks) like Joe Cornish to write the new Indy film. Maybe let Spielberg direct, but for the LOVE OF GOD, go with practical effects!

Maybe they should just leave Jurassic Park alone....

They've done enough. I think the potential with the JP series died with the first sequel where they decided to have a T-Rex rampaging throughout the city. Seriously where will you go from there? If they just stuck to the second book, the Costa Rica govt would still be covering the rumors of an island inhabited with dinosaurs in it and the general public wouldn't be privy to all the details that happened in the first and second film because they know dinosaurs exist. They should put this one to

They should put this one to rest and let it have a peaceful death. RIP Jurassic Park...your legacy has touched many.

If they want a good Indy 5 script then let anyone but Lucas write it. Lucas has raped my childhood enough, he's supposed to be retired now so please stay the fuck retired.

I am on board for Jurassic Park 4 and have been for a while. I am a fan of all 3, even though 1 is vastly superior to 2 and 3 combined. Too bad they screwed up Lost World in reference to the book because that would be a great story. Someone here about a year mentioned that the only thing left to do was to open the park, which could be a fun idea, but that could be treading on the end of the Lost World movie ending. I cannot think of a story; just hoping it's tight with a focus on Neill, Dern

Heh. Whining about it won't make it happen - best get breeding them yourself.

On his first point: "hallelujah, praise the Lord!"
On his second point: "hallelujah, praise the Lord!"

Both franchises were a big part of my entertainment diet growing up and actually still are. It's very possible that they're just trying ways to milk the cash cow, but the 3D re-release of Jurassic Park seems to be that already - leaving the door open for Jurassic Park 4. It's a world I really want to revisit.

At this point, neither franchise holds any major interest for me. That may change if some good ideas come out, but I shall not hold my breath...

Well that didn't keep you from doing the last one did it? I think they should just leave Indy alone, they've done enough damage as is.
In terms of JP4? Bring on more Dinosaurs! I think the series always had some serious potential in where they could go with the sequels, I always wished they would've gone "Aliens" on it and send in Marines to battle the Dinos.
