Frank Miller returning to DC Comics to pen mini-series The Dark Knight III

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With all the comparisons being made between Frank Miller‘s classic comic The Dark Knight Returns and Zack Snyder‘s BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, it makes sense that DC would want to capitalize as much as they could on the classic comics in their library. So, it comes at the perfect time that Frank Miller is returning to finish the tale he started with The Dark Knight III: The Master Race.

Serving as the final chapter to the trilogy begun with The Dark Knight Returns and The Dark Knight Strikes Back, The Dark Knight III will be published this fall as an eight-issue series written by Frank Miller and Brian Azzarello. Miller will not be creating the art for the series and those who will have yet to be named.

Miller’s run is considered a seminal piece of comics history and it will be something to see him tie the story up. Clearly, the cover art indicates a connection with Superman that fits perfectly with the marketing for BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Miller himself considers writing the book daunting but I expect it to be as good as any of his prior work.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
