Frank Oz says he would return if the Yoda movie becomes a reality

Feb. 8, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Frank Oz has become known for his feature films like LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS and DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, but he will forever be associated with his puppeteering career. Oz originated the classic Muppets Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear and STAR WARS icon Yoda.

With rumors swirling that Yoda will be getting a post STAR WARS: EPISODE VII spin-off movie, Oz has been asked if he will be involved in any way. Oz made headlines when he refused to perform in THE MUPPETS because he did not like the screenplay. But, on the topic of returning to STAR WARS, Oz was more positive saying hes in my heart, I know Yoda very deeply. What Oz doesn't expect to see return would be the puppet version of the Jedi master..

I think it depends on the story, but I think at this point you cant go back to the puppet, he said. The reason George [Lucas] did the CGI, which I supported, was that he wanted to tell a story that would have been hampered by the physical limitations of the puppet.

I had no problem with the CGI Yoda from the second and third prequels while the PHANTOM MENACE puppet looked like hot garbage. Whether Oz returns as the performer or an advisor on the project, it would be nice bringing back those involved from day one on the STAR WARS films. I am even okay with having George Lucas involved as long as it is not as screenwriter or director.

My only request is that they don't make Yoda breakdance ever again.

Yoda is a character who has a special place in the hearts of many fans. Hell, my Mum doesn't even like sci-fi and yet Yoda is her favourite character. There's something very special that Oz brought to the role, a near-perfect combination of heart, wisdom, warmth, humour and even toughness. For better or for worse, I agree with what Oz says about not being able to go back to using a puppet for Yoda (at least not entirely). I actually liked seeing Yoda jump around and do battle with Dooku and

I actually liked seeing Yoda jump around and do battle with Dooku and Palpatine and to ILM's credit he was mostly very well animated, hopefully if a stand-alone film comes to fruition, he'll feel a little more tactile.

ROFLMAO! Damn that's funny seeing yoda do that. As for frank oz doing a yoda role Im game for that definitely since he pretty much was the voice and major influence behind yoda. I can think of no one better if yoda got his own movie. My guess it will be an origin story of how he got into the jedi and became a member of the jedi council.

I love Yoda. I just don't see what kind of character development or story line can add anything more to Yoda's legacy without blemishing it. Also a huge shout out to an awesome little film that Frank Oz directed that everyone forgets about: What About Bob
