Freddy Krueger Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form's production company, Platinum Dunes, is all about remaking classic horror films with hot young teens and all kinds of flash cuts in order to appeal to hot young teens who love all kinds of flash cuts. And now that they've had success with TEXAS CHANSAW MASSACRE and likely with the upcoming FRIDAY THE 13TH, they're now setting their sights on bringing Freddy Krueger back in a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET remake/reboot. Fuller recently confirmed to both "Bloody Disgusting" and "Shock 'Till You Drop" that it's the company's next film and he hopes to start filming by summer of next year. Click through to read what else he had to say.

Dumb.
Useless mining of another horror franchise that doesn't need any new finger prints.

A MESSAGE FROM THE FUTURE!!!!

well first of all, they managed to get Will Smith to play Freddy Kruger. yeah, it was really weird news at first and tons of people were posting about what a horrible decision it was online. mostly saying stuff like... "i don't mean to be racist, and i love will smith, but..."

anyways, fanboy sentiment was pretty bleak until the trailer came out. Will Smith managed to pull off his magic and played the coolest, most charasmatic freddy kruger ever! the movie banked $500 million in US box office sales alone.

With that success, michael bay just started churning out the horror remakes with the same formula. in the span of three years, he released remakes of: Hellraiser (Tom Cruise as Pinhead), Halloween (Mel Gibson as Michael Myers), Child's Play (Vern Troyer as Chucky), Scream (Judi Dench as Ghostface), and I Know What You Did Last Summer (Michael Clarke Duncan as Jennifer Love Hewitt).

Now everyone's getting hyped for the remake of the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre starring Jessica Alba as Jessica Biel. It's gonna be AWESOME!

anyways, thats my update from the future.

PS Dragonball Evolution cleaned up at the 2010 Oscars (8 nominations 8 wins).

Are they going for a "darker" freddy?sorry but i don't see the point coz the classics should be left alone Robert Englund MADE Freddy. Period.

Why not continue from were Freddy Vs Jason left off?

I can't imagine anyone else playing freddy just like anyone else playing Indiana Jones.

Anyway whatever,.... invite Liam Neeson for an audition I think he can pull...

I read about this awhile ago and the word was that Englund was being replaced. I'm not necessarily against seeing the character being played by someone else, as Englund has already established a legacy that will endure, and I don't think some remake is gonna change that.

It all comes down to Freddy. Robert Englund MADE Freddy and made the films what they are. It really depends on who plays Freddy as to whether it would be worth it or not. You don't have the perfect Freddy, you don't have a film.

I really can't see anyone other than Englund, anyway I'd prefer to see this movie more as a remake but with more backstory to Krueger. More of Englund out of makeup which I think would make Krueger more sinister the more we learn about him. I want to see how twisted he was before the fire which makes the transition more understandable, that's what I'd like to see.

It's really only the original A Nightmare On Elm Street that stands up as a genuinely great horror movie, as far as I'm concerned. A reworked/updated series could be really good if handled properly.

A Hellraiser remake is more problematic as Hollywood just doesn't seem to be able to do classy but thoroughly nasty films any more. Most of the recent gore films like Hostel and remakes like The Hills Have Eyes have either been undercooked concepts or taken it too far with trying to shock the audience. A lot of the great horror films I've seen in recent years have been foreign language movies (Korean and French films seem to be closest to great horror these days).

That said, I think the best horror remake of recent times was the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot. In many ways it was a superior horror movie to the original.

it really depends on who plays Freddy. I've heard Billy Bob Thorton was a maybe, if so then I would go see it in a heartbeat.

Idea
Remaking all these classic horror films as heap dollar grabbers is horrible, unless you have something good to offer (instead of disguising a sequel as a 'remake'). Why not cast someone with amazing acting chops as Freddy? say...Daniel Day-Lewis? That might give the film the heft it needs. (And he would be amazing!!)

Reboots
Friday the 13th is being rebooted.

Now Nightmare might be rebooted.

I wonder if they'll let this shit get to a point where they "reboot" Freddy vs Jason? (which, by the way, I thought was a decent enough splatter flick.)

Well we all this would happen sooner or later.

The thing with "NOES" is that it`s not a guy in a mask like Jason or Michael. Whoever plays Freddy will have to be charismatic enough to sell the character to audiances the way Robert Englund did.

As for Englund not returning......yeah that REALLY sucks, but remember people: Englund said himself that he didn`t want to play Freddy...

GIVE OMAR A BREAK EVERYONE!!!
This is a new story. Yes we were told almost a year ago about this as a RUMOR. However, this article is just CONFIRMING that they are really going to make this film. It is no longer a rumor and is going to be made!

If the fuckers refuse to use Robert...
then the only way to get freddy as scary as he was in the original is to go with an unknown actor.

didn't we already hear this??
first i think it is cool that they are redoing nightmare, that is if they don't screw up a true horror classic. second, didn't we already get this info posted on here like two days ago?? also didn't the info say that they were looking into replacing robert englund? i may be wrong but this feels alittle like deja vu. then again i may have read it somewhere else.

2 years ago I would've been screaming my head off about this idea, but with all the remakes that have been churned out since then I'm just numb to a Freddy remake or reimagining or whatever the hell you want to call it. Go ahead Hollywood...ruin another classic.

personally, i think it's pointless to remake classic horror movies and except for Halloween, i pretty much hated everyone of those remakes. The worst part is that out of every remake ever made, the most boring ones are produce by micheal bay. So to say that i'm not exited about a Nightmares remake is a understatement. It would definitely have to be Englund. They could easily do a reboot and still have him play the part. And for anyone whose a Englund fan you have to check out Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, its a great time and he's great in it.

Even though this would never happen, I think Gary Sinise would look awesome in that make up, tuned down a bit to look a bit more humanesque.

Since Leatherface and Jason both wear masks and dont talk, they didnt need to get the same actors from the originals, but since Freddy does talk and has only had one person play him ever it would make sense to get Robert Englund again.
