Free movies on YouTube

Apr. 10, 2009by: Mike Sampson

Tired of watching clinically insane people do stupid things on YouTube? Horrified that this is the future of our society? Well Sony Pictures is helping diversify the content on YouTube. According to Bloomberg (the website not the mayor), Sony is in talks with Google to post full-length movies on YouTube.

The movies would reportedly be available for free and similar to the movies that Sony hosts on its own website Crackle.com, where GROUNDHOG DAY, GHOSTBUSTERS and STRIPES are among the films available (is it a coincidence that Sony is giving away Bill Murray films for free?). Is it no wonder there are rumors about Blockbuster going bankrupt? Sony would be the first studio to allow feature length content to be posted on YouTube though a number of other studios have streaming movies on Hulu.com.

So whether it be YouTube, Hulu or Crackle, would you stream a movie online? Does anyone here use technology like Boxee to watch streaming content on your TV?

NETFLIX

Seriously, Netflix Instant Play + Roku (some of us don't play video games) is very possibly one of the greatest inventions of all time.

I'd rather see Sony put their entire library on a monthly service you pay for than have them put a bunch of movies I already own on YouTube for free. But I'm selfish.

I stopped watching TV once Hulu came out. I heart Hulu! Where else can you watch Family Guy, The Office, Howard the Duck, Quantum Leap, the Toxic Avenger, The Tick (live action series), It's always Sunny and sooooo many more.

WAIT

Sony is doing something that isn't evil? This does not make sense.

I second, third....or whatever the Netflix Insta-stream plan. the fact that some tv shows are going on Netflix a few days after they are aird (Heros...and I think most NBC shows) is awesome. HD and no ads, I wish more stations did the same thing.

Ghostbuster on Crackle?

Who cares? Go to any DVD store and you can pick up the Ghostbusters & Ghostbusters 2 box set for about 7 bucks. Maybe cheaper online. It has the commentary for the first film, some cool little booklet, and some BTS footage. Definitely worth it!

I stream Netflix through my laptop, to my TV... I would love to be able to stream it through my game system which is always hooked to the TV, BUT I own a PS3 and not an Xbox, and don't plan to buy an Xbox, so I'm pretty damn jealous that they get Netflix streaming and I don't.

Anyway, yeah, I like to be able to stream movies. But I really don't see myself PAYING for movies online... If I'm gonna spend money, I'd rather have a hard copy, with the packaging and cover art, and whatnot. So, I

Plus, I'd like to see the video quality online get improved, but I'm sure that will come with time.

What about PS3

Sony should be allowing owners of PS3 (like myself) to download or stream videos for free off other their Playstation Store. They already have tons of movies to rent and buy off of that, but if they can let you see stuff for free then the PS3 should be the first place to do it.

Philalva. - Pointless?? With this economy and my personal place that I'm in right now, why would I DRIVE to walmart (or a pawnshop?? yeah, cuz that's what I think about when I want a movie...) and search through that 5 dollar bin and SPEND 5 bucks when I can jump on my laptop and watch a movie FOR FREE without ever having to leave my house??

Dumbass...
