A planned update of the memorable 80s vampire flick FRIGHT NIGHT had been tucked away inside a coffin, but now someone has removed the stake and resuscitated the bloodsuckers.

The Dreamworks remake (previously at Screen Gems) will be penned by TV veteran Marti Noxon, a writer-producer for "Mad Men" and former creative regular on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel", which gives her plenty of cred for the material.

The original flick involved a young man who is (rightfully) convinced his new neighbor is a vampire. It featured a cast that went on to stuff like "Herman's Head," "Married with Children" and porn, and was followed by a less-succesful sequel.

The new version will reportedly keep the same horror-comedy tone, but will likely "upgrade" the FX with tons of CGI.

Extra Tidbit: Speaking of upgrades, the sequel also swapped out Amanda Bearse for the way more desirable Tracy Lind as William Ragsdale's chick. Wonder what she's up to now?

Not sure if I am going to like it because I don't like most remakes but will see it since David Tennant will be playing Roddy McDowell's character. David Tennant is awesome at playing eccentric characters.

If Humperdink were a Vampire
This movie was 67.8 kinds of awesome when I was kid and after a recent viewing I found that it still holds up today. Totally unnecessary.

I'm not going to be one of those people screaming "Hell No!" but being a HUGE fan of the original I really fail to see how this remake could spark anything remotely cool. Hopefully, this will fall through the cracks yet again

It's a win win
If it's good ... great! If it's not, then I just appreciate the original even more.

That figures. All of the classics many of us hold near and dear to our hearts are being remade for the mere purpose of updating the special effects and to modernize the story. That's just ludicrous. The original Fright Night is a fantastic 80s classic and nothing will ever come close to touching it. I think some of the studios for some reason just don't get the fact that part of the charm of the old [link] one's made in the 80s--is nostalgia, the old effects and bits of cheese scattered throughout. Next they will announce a plan to remake every John Hughes movie from that era.

Okay
What's even more unsurprising and annoying then remakes these days is the people who keep complaining about them... Come on people we should be used to this.

The cred is good, and the time is definitely right for vampire movies, so as with all remakes we just have to hope the producers don't fuck it up

FUCK ME
I don't get it, why is Hollywood rehashing every single (even remotely) good movie into a remake..

It wont touch on the original version and become something else carrying the same name, ive had it with this junk.

Ha! I sometimes come out with that line, and it just meets blank stares.

Well, ok, AS LONG AS...
... there will FINALLY be a decent "special edition" of the original, 'cause I've been waiting years and years for one to come out!

The least you can do...
Is provide a sexy Jerry picture, you inconsiderate creature. :p

As for the news itself, well, the spirit of the movie is hugely tongue in cheek, so right now, I won't be so hasty to call boo on it. Let's wait and see.
