Frozen 2 will build a snowman a little earlier as release date shifts

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The Thanksgiving season of 2019 just got a little easier for parents, as they now won't have to juggle the release of FROZEN 2 with planning turkey dinner and fighting their way through Black Friday. The movie was originally slated for November 27, 2019 (the day before Thanksgiving), but now the movie is slated to come out five days earlier on November 22, 2019, in a release shift by Disney.

The sequel to the surprise animated smash hit of 2013 didn’t exactly have competition in its original slot, but the movie does now get to debut on the weekend before Thanksgiving and benefit from those lucrative pre-holiday dollars. Now the movie has an extra week to make even more money than it’s already set to, all before December movies like JUMANJI 3, STAR WARS EPISODE IX and the *snickers* CATS adaptation come out.

The first FROZEN starring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad remains the highest-grossing animated movie of all time around the world, making $1.27 billion back in 2013 with over $400 million coming from its domestic run. It would also go on to win two Oscars for Best Animated Film and Best Original Song (“Let it Go”). The sequel will see the return of the main cast, with Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown reportedly joining the lineup, and Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck returning to direct.

It’s been five years since the original movie came out, but Disney has ensured that we never forget the movie exists. Elsa (Menzel) and Anna (Bell) are still two wildly popular characters that children adore, while Olaf (Gad) got his own short in OLAF’S FROZEN ADVENTURE, which obnoxiously aired in theaters last year at the beginning of Pixar’s COCO. There's even a Broadway musical in the works, so yeah, FROZEN fever is here to stay.
