Full details on the Star Wars Blu-ray release announced

05.04.2011

Today Lucasfilm and Fox Home Entertainment announced the full details of the STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA Blu-ray box set that is set for release on September 16, 2011. The set will cost you $139.99 so what will you get for your money? There are NINE total discs in the set, six of which are obviously made up of the films themselves. Two of the other discs are "Archive" discs, which have supposed new deleted scenes, alternate takes, concept art and other behind-the-scenes goodies but they're frustratingly vague on what exactly that is.

There are just over three hours of new footage on the documentary disc, although 90 minutes of that is made of up STAR WARS parodies from "Family Guy," Weird Al and "The Big Bang Theory" (snoooooze). The commentaries on the disc seem to be the same as on the old DVD list so is what you're getting here - Blu-ray quality and a few hours of new footage - worth the price? Especially when you consider these are the "Special Edition" re-releases and not remastered original theatrical prints? Read on...

STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA ON BLU-RAY is presented in widescreen with 6.1 DTS Surround Sound. Special features include:

* DISC ONE STAR WARS: EPISODE I THE PHANTOM MENACE

Of everything Lucas has done to these films, I can't watch the Sarlacc with a fucking beak. I used to LOVE that scene when I was little, but the change completely destroys it.

Good for those of you who can wait for the original theatrical versions but i cannot. It will more than likely be another five years until those are on blu ray. waiting for star wars to be released on blu ray was hard as fuck almost as hard as waiting for "the Whole Bloody Affair" to be released.

Original trilogy please not the crappy special editions with the takky CGI. The packaging is crap too, seen it all before, looks like true fans will have to wait abit longer to get the proper versions of these films!!

Honestly I'm a little disappointed. I was not only expecting a lot more content, as well as a new cut, but also a little better packaging...

why did they go with the one character everyone hated for the saga's cover..?

Personally I don't care, I thought TPM is actually a lot better than most. The packaging could of been WAY better though. Yes, the art work is very well done, and looks very nice, but I really thought they were going to go all out on it's packaging...sigh.

Man!

I am honestly thinking of buying them separately. The cover of the two separate trilogies are just plain gorgeous! The cover of the full saga seems bleak and boring compared to them.

I have to agree. I bought the 1st trilogy on DVD because it had the originals. Man did the age. Hopefully the uncompressed look will help.

Well I don't care about grammar or spelling it's the internet. Second up I am sick of people bitchin and moaning over stupid stuff. So stick to your OLD DVD's then don't go off saying it's not good and all this Lucas wanted to do those films thats why he did them he couldn't of have done them back in the 70's because those effects never existed. So they seemed out of place in the films who cares. Star wars will always be the same and will always be an amazing film. So you can shut goldfingerz.

Deadly Sinner: Oh yeah I love lucas a lot. *rolls eyes* I'm just saying stop bitchin over something that will never happen. Time we get the old ones transfered to blu-ray it will be like 2020. And I never believe anything directors say until I see it. Look at QT he lies and talks so much shit out of his ass that nothing ever comes true. How long have we been waiting for a Kill Bill Directors Cut. For like a million years. Where never going to get one. Even Though he just showed it not to long

No thanks LucASS

What a bunch of lackluster features for such a revered boxset. I don't care how they look, I'll stick to my VHS copies of the original trilogy, and you can keep those prequels.

I know I'm in the minority with this, but growing up in the 1980's I never was very impressed with these movies. They always were kind of blah to me, and they still are. The fact that Lucas just keeps milking this cash cow makes me wonder if he's just scared to do anything else besides just going back to the same old storylines time and time and time again, and when there's no new stories to tell, then re-re-release these movies all over again. Kind of a shame to those folks who are fans of

Kind of a shame to those folks who are fans of these films, because they are the ones who are getting taken for their money. If I were a fan, then I'd be pissed off, but I'm not so it doesn't bother me in the least. I for one would like to see him do anything else besides a Star Wars-related film, something like American Graffiti again. God knows he can probably afford a flop or two at this point in his career. So try and branch out dude instead of just pissing off your fans. And this is coming from someone who could care less about these movies. (I've probably still got the originals somewhere on Beta by the way. Haven't been watched in at least a couple of decades I suspect)

That's cool, I'm not here to bash anyone who likes these movies. I just feel bad for the people who feel the need to buy these films in every format that Lucas can throw at them, solely because he can. It's a shame to me, because I'd really like to see him do something else with his career, rather than see him go down in history as "the guy who bled Star Wars to death, and then kept on going". These films just never were my thing. I think I saw Empire back when I was like 5 or 6, and it was

I've got my own memories of films past, so I know how you feel. To each their own. All I'm going to say is that I don't see my favorite movies with 15+ different releases on different formats. Just do it once, call it a day, and move on to something new Mr. Lucas.

A Shameful Insult

An 84 minute documentary on the 501st and 90+ mins of spoof footage?! REEEAAALLLYYY? Oh yeah, because we're all dying to see those.
I recently bought the Alien boxset and (like the Blade Runner collection a few years earlier) the amount of stuff on there is mind-blowing and I'd say definitive. So sad that Lucasfilm continue to shamelessly and embarrassingly milk the cash cow than actually offer up anything substantial. I'll keep my money and wait for the reviews to come rolling in closer the
