Full plot and casting for Riddick revealed (plus a beautiful new picture)

Feb. 6, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

Chronicles of Riddick Banner

Vin Diesel's passion project RIDDICK has been shooting in Montreal for a fair little while now, as evidenced by the small deluge of production photos we've shared over these last days.  Well now I've got another one for you, and I think that it is really just a damn beautiful shot.  I have no idea what's going on in it, except that maybe Riddick is hunting something (or someone) - if that is the case, then our Furyan friend seems to be in full-on predator mode, and I like the thought of that.  I like the thought of that very much indeed.

Golden Riddick

The newly-fleshed-out plot synopsis and cast list goes something like this:

"The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he's encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty. The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won't leave the planet without Riddick's head as their trophy.

Riddick also sees the return of Karl Urban (STAR TREK) as Vaako and introduces to the series previously announced cast member Jordi Molla as Santana, the arrogant captain of the mercenary ship; Matt Nable (KILLER ELITE) as Boss Johns, a man looking for answers; Katee Sackhoff ("Battlestar Galactica") as the Nordic mercenary Dahl; and Bokeem Woodbine (DEVIL) as bounty hunter Moss. Rounding out the cast are Dave Bautista (THE SCORPION KING 3: BATTLE FOR REDEMPTION), Conrad Pla (IMMORTALS), Raoul Trujillo (APOCALYPTO), Nolan Funk ("Aliens in America") and two-time Grammy Award-nominated singer Keri Hilson."

Maybe it's just because I live under a pop-culture rock, but I have no idea who Keri Hilson is.  Here's a suitably tough-yet-sexy picture that I found while on my quest to rectify that fact:

Keri Hilson tough pose

If I can't say Star Wars, Star Trek, or Sunshine, then I will say Moon.

Great sci-fi flick with a brilliant Sam Rockwell.

Serenity/Firefly. It's got a show, a movie and comics. That counts, right?

I will (and have in the past) paid cash money to see Vin Diesel waste some fools.

Best sci-fi property outside of Star Trek....Planet of the Apes, Terminator, Back to the Future, Fallout, Alien, Avatar.

that's a cool pic. Very Apocalypse Nowish. I'm very excited for this one, Riddick 2 left me a little underwhelmed but it was still a decent watch in the cinema and withstands repeated viewings.

As for sci-fi franchises Riddick is definitely up there but I would have put Terminator, Alien, Predator, Back to the Future, Planet of the Apes and Dead Space before it

I think it's fantastic that we're gonna get another Riddick movie & I'm looking forward to it! The return of Karl Urban is a definite bonus, loved him in Chronicles.

More Urban is a good thing!

Getting more and more stoked for this one. I'm glad to see Karl Urban as Vaako make the cast. Curious to see how they tie the events from the end of Chronicles (after Riddick became the new Lord Marshal) and how it effects their relationship. 2012 is looking like a good year for sci-fi.

wait... wut?

Hold on a second. In that synopsis mentions nothing about how Chronciles ends with Riddick the rightful ruler of the Necro's. Until i read the bit about Urban coming back as Vacco i almost thought they might be disregarding the last movie which would have been weird. Well here's hoping there's a damn good reason why he's not leading the Necro's at this point.

YES!

I didn't think they were that far along with this. I'm so pumped and the premise just keeps sounding better...

What happened to Riddick's vast galactic empire he inherited at the end of Chronicles? pray-tell.

Extra-tidbit: If not Serenity/Firefly, than Aliens or Predator.

There are so many SciFi franchises I could think of, like The Matrix, X-Men, Terminator, Predator.. they all have their flaws but damn they are fun! BTW, is it appropriate to consider "Marvel's Superheroes" as one major SciFi franchise? If so, then that's the richest of them all...

Fav sci-fi property outside of ST & SW...

I'd have to say Firefly, or maybe Back to the Future.

Can't wait for Riddick to return. I was a fan of the first two films and love the Riddick universe, plus this sounds like the best of both Pitch Black and Chronicles, so I am down. The synopsis sounds a little messy, there's a lot going on there, a little worried about that, but nonetheless looking forward to this.
