Full teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness is all kinds of awesome

Dec. 17, 2012by:

As if you needed another reason to be more excited for J.J. Abrams' sequel, STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, today we have the full-length teaser trailer, which packs a lot of sci-fi tension into two minutes. I saw this trailer at my screening for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY yesterday and was blown away by the coolness of it all. It definitely has an EMPIRE STRIKES BACK kind of vibe, which is bad ass in my book.

For those not lucky enough to see the first nine minutes of the film, which have garnered a lot of excitement and praise thus far, this teaser will likely satiate you just the same.

Head into darkness:

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Peter Weller, Bruce Greenwood, is set to take to the stars on May 17, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Based on our poll last week, this is the second most anticipated movie of 2013, trailing just behind Man of Steel. Not too shabby, I'd say.

BRRRRRAAAAAAAWWWNNNNGGGG!!!!

Nice trailer, but-(IMPOSING HORN SOUND)

It's starting to get a little silly how overused the 'cut to black - quick shot with big horn noise - cut to black' thing is in teasers and trailers in the last year... Not everything has to be Inception guys...

Looking forward, but with reservations

There is a lot more character depth-- particularly with regard to Kirk and Spock-- in this series than the others and that is cool. Not knowing what is coming down the pipe is a nice treat these days too.

But I'm getting sick of the "villain captured as part of his own plan" storyline. We have seen it a ton recently (Dark Knight, Skyfall, etc.) and it is becoming cliched. Also, the Spock/Uhura thing just seems like amateur screenwriting with no justification given on screen. Just throwing

Oooh, what if we made Bones gay and he's in love with Kirk? What if we made Scotty a serial killer?

That's most definitely Spock and Benedict's hands at the end. I have no idea what we're in for and I love it.

Good observation, I originally thought it was a nod to the original. The 9 minute preview opens with Cumberbatch offering to save a couple's dead child (if you didn't see it before the Hobbit), I'm really curious where they're going with it now.

Outstanding.

Anybody see the 'I have been, and always shall be, your friend' sequence near the end? Wow.

Awesome indeed!

Great to see everybody from the crew this time!

Love the first one so much and I have the feeling this will be even better!
Also a strong second on my "most anticipated movies of 2013"-list, right after Man of Steel.

I saw the 9 minute trailer as well and it made me forget I was even at the the theater to watch The Hobbit. Awesome audience reaction as well.

I'm starting to think the dramatic hands between the glass thing is a red herring as far a hinting at a repeat of the Wrath of Khan. My guess would be that it's Spock and Cumberbatch's character, seeing as how the shirt is black and he's imprisoned in a glass cell.

9 Minute Prologue

For those that saw the prologue before seeing The Hobbit, i can definitely see a connection between Cumberbatch saying "Is there anything you would not do for your family?" and the opening scene of the movie. I already knew it'd be great when Benedict Cumberbatch was announced, but hopefully that's even more proof of a very complex, well-crafted villain!

This is no surprise. I was 100% sure this movie was going to be awesome. The second I heard Benedict Cumberbatch was the main villain, whether it be Khan or whoever, I knew. This shot right up to the top of my list for next year. Next year is going to be PACKED. I'm going to be in the movie theater a lot.

Great trailer, full of JJ Abrams lens flares! My corneas are burned out.

I got to watch the 9 minute preview before the hobbit Friday and became immediately sucked into the movie, did not want it to end and as everyon elsee did, I groaned when it was over but am more excited for this to come.

Thought the first teaser was stronger, but still very keen to see this film.

This doesn't so much look like "Star Trek" as it does "Mass Effect: the Movie." Even so, I like what I see.

As much as I loved the first teaser this one is infinitely better. It appears to have much more heart to it now and more of an emotional payoff much like the trailers for the first movie. I got goosebumps watching with Pike's voice over combined with the more somber music. Perfection. Can't wait until the full trailer now.

Also full of jumping off tall objects, where you know the main characters jumping off impossible heights won't die from it. And of course the villain voice over is another epic feature. Full of collor and action and a little sexiness. That JJ Abrams. He has his bag of tricks open.

Great trailer...

This has me pumped. But I still think the original Star Trek movie trailer is better...
