FX CEO says American Horror Story's fifth season to be a "large reinvention"
AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW comes to a close this week and marks the end of Jessica Lange's run after four seasons and several acting trophies. A lot of the excitement and buzz around the show has become a bit stagnant after four seasons. So, with AMERICAN HORROR STORY already renewed for season five to air in the Fall, what can we expect to see? More of the same?
FX CEO John Landgraf told TV Line that while Ryan Murphy has told him the basic outline for next season, he hasn't confirmed anything just yet while the showrunners fine tune their direction. There are also going to be some changes.
One of the things I love so much about that is that it can be radically, radically reinvented in terms of tone, setting, period, characters, cast… I think there’s going to be an unusually large reinvention in between Book 4 and Book 5 relative to, say, between Book 3 and 4.
With some AMERICAN HORROR STORY veterans like Sarah Paulson and Emma Roberts off to other Ryan Murphy shows like AMERICAN CRIME STORY and SCREAM QUEENS, it makes me wonder if season five will feature an all new cast with no returning faces from the prior years. The other likely option would be to make Angela Bassett or Kathy Bates, two of the best additions to the show during COVEN, the central focus of season five.
AMERICAN HORROR STORY remains must see television just to figure out what kind of crazy shenanigans Ryan Murphy and his cohorts can think up next but it will also need to find a suitable replacement for the great Jessica Lange who stole the show each and every season.
The finale of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW airs Tuesday, January 21st on FX.
