FX confirms that Justified will end after next season

Jan. 14, 2014by:

Damn! First Boardwalk Empire and now Justified!

Well, it looks like another great show is about to ride off into the sunset as FX president and general manager John Landgraf announced that their hit show, Justified, will be closing up shop after it's sixth season. Landgraf made the announcement at the Television Critics Association press tour, saying that the decision was made by showrunner Graham Yost and star Timothy Olyphant.

We talked about it a year ago and they felt that the arc of the show and what they had to say would be served by six seasons instead of seven and I regretfully accepted their decision," said Landgraf.

My initial reaction to this is "that f*cking sucks!" but after six seasons I think Justified will be able to maintain its momentum and go out in style rather than overstaying its welcome, which has been a longtime curse for some shows. Having an end to work towards definitely helps structure a fitting finale as well, instead of it turning into a surprise rush to the finish (Arrested Development, anyone?). So, while I'm disappointed to see Justified go, I'm also happy that we still have two seasons left and a focused direction to close it out properly.

Olyphant will next be seen on the big screen in THIS IS WHERE I LEAVE YOU on September 12, 2014. You can catch the fifth season of Justified on FX, Tuesdays at 10:00 PM ET/PT.

I thought Breaking Bad should end with 5 seasons and I got my wish and a similar thought has come true, after finishing season 4 I thought Justified should end with 6. Don't like saying it but Kentucky isn't big enough for more, less he ventured elsewhere, Justified in Canada. "Drop move another step or I'll shoot you, aye."

Horrible News, But this is a show you can go back to

Im happy they can go out the way they want to but am disappointed that all my favorite shows are ending. Hopefully some new ones catch my eye soon.

Sad, but ok

I'm in agreement with many others. My favorite show, don't overstay your welcome, could easily see it as a one off on the big screen, but would love to see Oly move on as he has a lot to offer. He made Raylan an icon imho. Also, brings a coolness and versatileness to his roles. My 2 favs are The Girl Next Door and Perfect Getaway. Surprisingly I never got around to Deadwood...

that sucks

easily one of the best and one of my favorites going. hopefully there might be some room for a big screen version, I mean it wouldn't cost too much to make and should do pretty well.

While I am sad it will be ending, I am always happy when a series doesn't overstay it's welcome. Every season of Justified seems to have stand alone seasons without any real connection between the two. That style of TV for a cable show like this only has so much steam before it starts feeling worked. I mean, look what it did to 24. I would guess, now, that the sixth season will focus on Rayland and Boyd, as that's something that they've been inching towards but haven't really covered.

Sad by the news, but in a way I'm happy it's not going long enough to dry out.

Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy, The Newsroom, Justified...

just crazy, I'm very bummed about Boardwalk and Sons finishing though, especially Boardwalk. That show still has potential to go a few more seasons, but I'm hoping to see a Better Call Saul style spinoff of Boardwalk, centered on Stephen Graham's Al Capone.

Hopefully all of these shows have more interesting and satisfying final seasons than Dexter's [link] season 8.

I'm disappointed it's ending, but am glad (like Boardwalk Empire) that this show has taken the quality over quanity approach. It's one of the best written, directed, acted, and beaitiful looking shows on television and am hoping that they give us a hell of a last two seasons. It's one of of my favorite shows of all time and I will miss it and the incredible dialogue and banter between each character.
