FX orders pilot for Sons of Anarchy spinoff; Kurt Sutter to direct

12.01.2016

Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is not yet done with his motorcycle club saga, as Deadline reports that FX has just ordered a pilot for a spinoff entitled, "Mayans MC." Fans of Anarchy may remember the Mayans as recurring characters, and now the new series will follow the struggles of EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border. Sutter is collaborating with Elgin James this time around, stating that he "wanted to find a strong, unique Latino voice, because I didn’t think a white guy from Jersey should be writing about Latin culture and traditions." Fair enough!

While I haven't watched Sons of Anarchy myself, I know enough about the show that fans were disappointed with its final season. Perhaps Sutter and Co. can do fans proud with this new story. And if there were any survivors from Sons, I'm sure we can expect them to pop up every now and again too. After all, I assume the series is about what great friends everyone is because they all ride bikes, right?

Production on Mayans MC will begin in March of 2017.

I hope enough people came to see how bad SoA became, and don't give this show enough attention to keep it going. I think in this case... the Sons should just lay down and die. And stay dead.

Sons of Anarchy was one of the very best shows on television when it aired and if this new series is half as good as the original series, then we should be in for a good time for hopefully multiple seasons.

I'm a fan of SOA...

... and I loved the final season. I loved the whole damned series in fact.

Final season sucked...

Overall the show was good. The only problem was that in the first season you were led to believe Jax would grow and become something different than the others and he ended up being as dumb as the rest.

That was kind of the whole point of the series.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I liked the show a lot with the exception of the direction they took Jax throughout. And the whole irritating thing at the end like he was somehow sacrificing himself for the MC, when really he was just being an idiot.

What kind of ending was he supposed to have?

I think I was pretty clear in my original post. His ending was just plain dumb. He went from a deep thinker in season one to a complete idiot by the end of the show. Considering this and the way he drove himself into a semi at the end of the show, yeah, pretty stupid.

I think that's the tragedy of the show and character. He had the potential to be a good person and greater than the lot but his mothers tampering and the toxic nature of his "family" destroyed him like it did his father and the others.

That was the whole point. Not some bullshit Hollywood fairy tail happy ending.

No one wanted a fairytale ending but driving your bike into a semi is just stupid and cheesy. Explain it away however you like, but the last season was just terrible, and especially the last episode. I watched every episode as they aired so I'm just as much a fan as you. I just don't feel the Jax character was the conclusion we needed. Matter of opinion. Honestly, where is the surprise of the son of a biker doing just as his dad did? Jax was introduced as a self-reflecting intelligent guy

That innocent Jax died when Opie did. After that he changed. I wouldn't say he was a dumb ass. He just didn't care about living a normal life anymore.

Honestly, in my opinion, I think innocent Jax died well before Opie's death. It was in season 2 where he went from being the introspective soulful smart guy to a lying criminal who did more harm to his family and friends and made decisions to keep hurtful secrets from everyone. This behavior only worsened over the course of the show to his rather corny ending driving into a truck. I know, I sound negative - I *loved* the show, except Jax. He was a wasted opportunity of a character. I really

While I'm in, I don't think this will be a huge success.
Part of the reason the original was such a hit was that you had clean cut corporate white guys going through a mid life crisis who had just bought their first Harley off the lot relate to the characters and think they too could be as bad ass as them.

Exactly. That is exactly what I am saying. It's not SOA and won't have the same mass appeal that SOA had. I don't see it lasting past three seasons. Probably two. Purely based on raitings not quality.
