FX orders Zach Galifianakis and Louis C.K.’s clown comedy Baskets

The growing popularity of the FX is sure to continue with this latest news concerning a new series coming to the network. FX just picked up a show called Baskets, a half-hour, single camera comedy series starring Zach Galifianakis. He created the show along with Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia).

Here’s the official synopsis:

In a world constrained by corporate interests and the homogenization of society, one man in Bakersfield, California dares to follow his dream of becoming a professional clown. But after an unsuccessful enrollment at a prestigious clowning school in Paris, the only job he can find is with the local rodeo. Baskets follows Chip Baskets’ (Zach Galifianakis) pursuit of his dream, against all odds, to be a respected clown.

I don’t know how anyone couldn’t like this idea. The pedigree behind it is great and the fact that this man is trying so hard to be something so unfunny is one big joke that I could see having a lot of mileage. His name is Chip Baskets! How great is that? Ten episodes of Baskets have already been ordered, and likely because of Galifianakis’ busy movie schedule, it won’t premiere until 2016.

Now, if he can perform a loop-de-loop on a tiny bicycle, we’re talking Emmy.
