Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall will take on the Justice League movie

Jun. 5, 2012by: Niki Stephens

Oh man, oh man, oh man does this guy have a huge task in front of him.

So turns out that while Marvel was shooting THE AVENGERS, Warner Brothers hired Will Beall to script the JUSTICE LEAGUE movie. Beall is currently a favorite over at the studio having written GANGSTER SQUAD and soon, remakes for LOGAN'S RUN and LETHAL WEAPON.

Obviously, Warner Bros. will not confirm or deny the news. But what is the probability of this happening? Haven't they been trying to get this shit together for a hundred years now (or at least that's what it feels like)? Beall has yet to turn in a script for the film so we still have time to remain skeptical.

While I think a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie would be great, at the same time, I don't really care anymore if they put one out or not.

I agree, Justice League needs to be dark. I don't know why but I always envision DC stuff darker.

FLASH!

Does anyone else think Flash should have gotten a movie before Green Lantern? I love GL don't get me wrong but Ryan Reynolds is the Flash without a doubt. Big missed opportunity there; Flash will be a surprise box office hit and hopefully a good movie

Maybe they'll do a reverse-Avengers and start their shared-continuity universe in JLA and then spin off into solo films. They seem to do everything else backwards...

I thought this was a very bad idea, until I read they are also currently working on a new Wonder Woman stand alone film. So maybe they will do the whole tie in between the films. Now it's just wait and see.

Excuse moi Warner Bro but.. don't you have to set the same "universe" for all your superheroes first? Didn't we take any notes from the Avengers?

This sounds so much like:

- Listen up fellow execs, Marvel put bunch of supers in one movie and it worked! Let's do the same, but.. with the Wonder Twins, we include.. THE MONKEY. Get it?

- Monkey you say? That's Gold Jerry.. Gold!

High five.. ass slapping.. bro hugs

I want this to turn out good against all odd but I'm really doubtful. I've always been a DC person more then Marvel. Theres something really wrong with DC's film department that needs reworking. During the 80's and 90's DC was looked at the company who made the ballsy moves or who took the greatest risks (I'm talking comics here.) Reasoning being is because DC has always been number two when competing with marvel for the number one spot and when you're number two you'll do whatever it takes to

Reasoning being is because DC has always been number two when competing with marvel for the number one spot and when you're number two you'll do whatever it takes to get to the number one spot. This caused DC to really branch out of the norm in the comics. This what needs to happen with its films. The DC films that have come out the last couple of years have been playing it safe and following a formula thats out dated and uninteresting (with the expection of Batman). There really isnt a reason why DC's characters couldn't generate the same success that Marvel characters have. If theres one place that DC should look to when making a great film based on their own character is their own animation department.

Going to be pure shit....

I'm sorry but the way DC has been treating their on screen (movies or tv) heroes is abysmal. What marvel did was pure genius, making movies that tie in together and have the characters established. Look at what they did to Green Arrow in the new series, looks like crap. Look at Wonder Woman that was cancelled before it started. It was crap. Green Lantern? Crap. DC doesn't care about its audience. This should not be happening. The fact that it will be the first time we see a new batman, wonder

This will be a rushed mess just like green lantern. Half assed effects and odds are 10:1 the villain will be a giant ass cloud calling itself DARKSEID.

This movie will be re-written by whoever they get to direct it. Sadly, I have no idea who in Hollywood is as big a DC fan as Joss Whedon is a Marvel fan. I always dug the JLA more than The Avengers. I hope this works out so that my life long favorite comic book team can have the same success as the one I never really enjoyed until this summer.

Take note from Marvel

Lets see how Man of Steel does. You can use the Green Lantern movie. Its already made and really most people are kinda familiar with the character. Give me a Flash movie to introduce that characters world. Make a Auquaman movie (maybe have Adrian Grenier play him... HA). Everyone knows Batman so just put him in the movie and maybe introduce Wonder Woman in the movie. Story? My wish would be Doomsday.

And not even the original Alan Scott, but the Alan Scott of a separate timeline. DC just wanted people who don't read comics to think 'Green Lantern is gay' just as when they killed off the second Robin (Jason Todd) in the 80s everybody who didn't read comics thought it was Dick Grayson.

Broke my heart after reading a Lethal Weapon remake.

The only way I could see it "working" is if it were more of a comedy, like 21 Jump Street.

Nolan and Bale's Batman does not exist in any universe in which there are super-powered beings, shape-shifting aliens, or warrior princesses that wield the powers of Greek Gods. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Lets see how 'Man of Steel' turns out, then we'll talk.

If done properly and with the right talent in front of and behind the camera, I think a Justice League movie could be just as good as The Avengers. But at this point it is a very BIG if. Would Bale come back if only Nolan was attatched? Would Reynolds reprise Hal Jordan/Green Lantern(I REALLY hope he does) even though the movie was great, but did not make alot of money? How would they introduce The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman without having their own movies like Green Lantern, Batman, and

IMA GO OFF...IN A NICE WAY!

JLA will happen just like the Avengers did... DC will open up strong with a pretty popular character (Iron Man/Superman). I.E. Man of Steel.

Then they'll introduce someone lesser known (Thor/Aquaman).

Next they'll introduce a character that has always been in people's heads, but has never really been a hugely popular character with those outside of the comic book realm (Hulk/Flash).

Wonder Woman and Martian Man Hunter or Green Lantern can play minimal

Wonder Woman and Martian Man Hunter or Green Lantern can play minimal roles, like Black Widow and Hawkeye. After Green Lantern's solo film flop, DC won't put him in another solo film just yet. Similarly, after Wonder Woman's TV show fiasco they won't greenlight a solo film for her either. I honestly can't see Martian Man Hunter
supporting a summer tent-pole.

THEN FINALLY, they will introduce their most popular character/head of the super-team (Captain America/Batman).

I get it that Batman isn't technically JLA's leader, but right now he is obviously DC's most popular and bankable character. Because it will take a few years to build up this universe, they will be able to establish a new Batman in a more fantastical JLA Universe. They won't need to use Bale again because he will have been lost in the hype of a 6-10 year build up to JLA.

Then they put it all together in a JLA film, and make one trillion dollars.

That's a fuckin' ten year business strategy. I'd say they should reintroduce Batman with the HUSH story, because Hush's history is so closely linked to Batman's that they can have flashbacks about Batman's past without having to do a straight-up reboot like Batman Begins, which, according to the joblo forums, nobody wants.

So...that's my opinion on how the JLA saga will play out. DC would be stupid to not follow Marvel's business strategy. Sure, JLA could be a little darker and less playful than the Marvel Universe, but the basic outline of DC's next 7-10 years seems like a no-brainer to whoever holds the checkbook over there.

End of rant.

Anyway....

Lethal Weapon remake with donald glover and Christian Bale?

The only way this works....

...is if the Studio has made Nolan their guru and he has agreed to guide this whole ship. Which DC and Warner Bros clearly has with him producing both Batman and Superman.

Everyone is saying that is can't work simply because the Batman continuity factor that has been created by the Nolan Batman series. But I was thinking about some of the recent quotes by Bale and Nolan recently about coming back 'if the story is right'. With Nolan producing all things DC right now, its more possible than

But I was thinking about some of the recent quotes by Bale and Nolan recently about coming back 'if the story is right'. With Nolan producing all things DC right now, its more possible than people might think to expand the Nolan Universe. Just one mention of Gotham and Batman, not even by name, in The Man of Steel and boom, you have made that first connection. Just like SHIELD and Nick Fury in Iron Man. It could be something as small as a news story on TV, doesn't really matter, just acknowledgement of their existence. The continuity is not so much an issue as people might think.

The biggest issue is:
A) Would Bale & Nolan even be willing to consider it? I think if Nolan was on board Bale might be in. That is a BIG if.
B) If an sort of cross-over was established in the writing of the Man of Steel.

But the likelihood is so remote, I won't hold my breath.
