Garret Hedlund the latest to join the Coens' Inside Llewyn Davis

I've called Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY, COUNTRY STRONG) a personality vacuum in the past and I'm sticking to it. This is despite the fact, however, that the masterful Coen Bros. apparently see something in him that's worth throwing up onto the big screen.

According to Variety, Hedlund is in negotiations to join the sibling filmmakers' upcoming music film INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS. While Hedlund's role isn't discussed in the trade's brief report, he will be joining an impressive cast that so far includes Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, and John Goodman. The film is based on the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene and follows the life of the titular Llewyn Davis (to be played by Isaac), a character loosely based on singer Dave Van Ronk.

All of this comes shortly after the news that the ill-advised AKIRA adaptation would no longer be moving forward, presumably freeing up Hedlund who was set to play one of that film's lead roles.

Wha-

He's a terrific young actor. Watch Death Sentence and tell me he's a "personality vaccum". His role in Tron was simply poorly written.

Llewyn

I find it just like an extra tidbit interesting that the name Llewyn was the name of Brolin's character in No Country. Its just an odd name for a guy and they are using it twice in their movies, wonder if the name has any signifigance to them?

The name isn't exactly the same. This movie's character is Llewyn. Brolin's character in No Country is Llewelyn. Damn similar though. Obviously they didn't choose the name for No Country, as that's the name of the character in the book but it is weird that they chose such a similar name for this original story.

Good. Anything he's doing other than Akira is fine by me. Like I've said before, he's WAY above that, even in a fairly early career.
