Gemma Arterton may be meeting with Ridley Scott for Alien prequel talks | Movie News

Update: Arterton's publicist is denying this claim, saying "there's no truth to it." But the question still stands, do you think Arterton would be good in a role like this? If this gets enough press or support, might it actually become a reality?
It seemed rather out of character for Ridley Scott to all of a sudden sign on for not one, but two ALIEN prequels, a franchise most figured he'd long left behind. But after a string of films that were somewhat disappointing to most, it appears he wants to head back to what he knows. And who will join him on this ride?
According to an interview with The Sunday Times [via The Playlist], CLASH OF THE TITANS and PRINCE OF PERSIA's Gemma Arterton says she's meeting with Scott to discuss possibly taking the lead in the new films. If you're wondering why Scott would seek her out after TITANS and PERSIA were largely yawn-fests, it was her role in THE DISAPPEARENCE OF ALICE CREED that caught his eye, and it's probably not fair to blame her for the failings of those two duds, whose flaws went way beyond any contribution she might have made in either film.
To clarify, no, Arterton would not be playing a young Ripley, here's a refresher on the premise behind the prequel films.
“[The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.”
"The film will be really tough, really nasty. It’s the dark side of the moon . We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would go in and clean up a planet?"
It takes place 30 years before Ripley, and has to do with uncovering the mystery of the "Space Jockey" in the downed ship from the first movie.
What do you think about the idea of Arterton as the new Weaver-type in the ALIEN series?

Extra Tidbit: I'm just curious to see if Ridley still has his sci-fi touch after all these years.

Because all the other Alien movies had a female lead and that worked?
I would some how just feel a bit samey (if thats even a word). Would she kinda be the badass chick like Ripley? She'll have to have some serious character development to define her.

To be fair, I hope to see her in smaller films to see if she improves. But putting her in another big budget film is a BAD IDEA.
I am curious about the space jockey though.
