George Lucas updates us on the Star Wars TV show that'll probably never happen

05.26.2011

There have been rumors about a live-action STAR WARS TV show for years and years and back in 2009, Lucas confirmed they were writing a new series that would take place between REVENGE OF THE SITH and STAR WARS. Flash-forward about two years and we're no closer to getting a STAR WARS TV series. So what gives Herr Lucas?

The director was on G4 this week promoting the new "Star Tours" attraction at Disney Land and was asked about the series and its current status. As George Costanza once said, it looks like Prognosis: Negative.

Lucas confirmed they've shot over 50 hours worth of scripts written but they're just sitting on a shelf. And why? Apparently it's too expensive to shoot what Lucas wants to film. I'll let him explain...

"We have 50 hours and were just waiting to figure out a different way of making movies, a different technology that we can use that will make it so it is economically feasible to shoot the show. Right now it looks like the Star Wars features, but we have to figure out a way of making it for about a tenth the cost of the features, because its television. And were working toward that and were continuing to work toward that and we will get there at some point. But its just a very, very difficult process."

Everyone get out your tiny little violins and play a song for George Lucas who doesn't have enough money to pay for his STAR WARS TV series. Keep in mind he's one of the 100 wealthiest people in the United States and at the top of the highest paid men in Hollywood. And this is before the STAR WARS Blu-rays and 3D re-releases. So you'll literally be paying for a STAR WARS TV series right out of your own pocket. (And figuratively paying for it when you're eventually disappointed by it.)
