George Miller promises more Mad Max, starting with Mad Max: The Wasteland

05.18.2015

It doesn't happen all that often but MAD MAX: FURY ROAD seems to have managed the impossible; it's lived up to the rather lofty hype that was bestowed upon it. The film has done remarkably well critically as well as performing decently at the box-office, so it's only natural that the sequel talk has started to heat up again. Director George Miller spoke on Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith where he revealed that the title of the next installment of his post-apocalyptic saga will be MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND. I like it.

We’ve got one screenplay and a novella. It happened because with the delays [on Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded.

The screenplay is for MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND while the novella is for the as-yet untitled third film. We'd known that Miller had been writing sequels to MAD MAX: FURY ROAD for some time and, although things seem to have changed somewhat, I'm pleased that it looks likely that we'll actually get to see them realized on screen. Keep in mind that nothing has been announced officially but I can't imagine that Warner Bros. won't want more Max.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is currently in theaters and if you haven't already, you should really check it out. If you have seen it...see it again, and then make sure to head on over to our "What did you think of Mad Max: Fury Road?" post to chime in with your thoughts on the film.

What or whom would you like to see in MAD MAX: THE WASTELAND?

I'm all for this. Are we in for a revival of R action films? I sure hope so.

Good tidings. I wouldn't mind if Miller got to bring some of his kinetic energy into a superhero film, he could teach those other young directors a thing or two. But let the man tell the stories he wants to tell. And if he pisses off more of those incredible woman haters, even better.

Not in long time has a movie actually left my mouth open while watching Mad Max. More is definitely welcome.

Loved Fury Road, but I also hope that the next installments won't be a complete retread of this film, ala another 2 hour chase scene. What I thought was really cool about the Mel Gibson Mad Max movies was that they all had their own unique feel to them while still staying in the same Universe. Fury Road was definitely more of a spiritual sequel to The Road Warrior, so I wouldn't be upset if they reeled everything back a little bit and did something more in line with Beyond Thunderdome,

Just saw Fury Road tonight and it was brilliant, but it was almost more of an origin story for Max and he took a back seat to the other characters. It will be good to see him in a follow up that is all about him.

Cool, hope it happens!

If it is half as good as FURY ROAD, then it will be twice as good as most summer action blockbusters!

Just saw Fury Road for the second time. A sequel would be most welcome. The imagination that Miller has brought to the cinema is most welcome.

Hopefully we won't have to wait another 30 years...haha. Honestly, I'd love to see the next chapter tomorrow, but in order to maintain the sheer quality of this one we may have to wait a good 3 to 5 years, or maybe now George Miller will have perfected this grand experiment even more.
Also, there are multiple directions this can head into...
Lastly, I saw it twice and I still would like to see it in 3D (which looks taylor made for like an Avatar) and the drive-in (taylor made yet again for

I saw it once in each format. I'm not a huge fan of 3-D but had some decent pop. It was very blurry at some points. I would go 2-D if an option and save the cash and enjoy the beauty. Only reason I saw 3-D was when the movie started it was blurry, I thought I was going to and bought a 2-D showing. I was so pumped wanting to see it again I sat through the 3-D showing. Tells you something

This is such a badass flick.

Great news if the green light is given, a rejuvenated franchise that I think George Miller has only shown us the tip of the iceberg. Bring on The Wasteland!

Well they better officially announce it already.

Best film of the year (thus far) and easily one of the best films I have ever seen. More Mad Max, the better.
