Gerard Butler in talks to star as a troubled father/soccer coach in Slide

While this news comes a little late to capitalize on the World Cup craze of the last couple of months, it might be just in time to take advantage of fans who simply love movies about f*cked up dads and the life lessons they inevitably learn (via either a kid or a woman, or both).

Enter Gerard Butler who’s in talks to star in SLIDE, which LA Times’ 24 Frames summarizes as, “a character comedy that centers on a troubled father trying to make up for lost time by coaching his son’s team — but who finds himself in hot water after some of the local mothers take a little too much of a shine to him (and he to them).” I bet you can figure out what happens next!

The film, originally titled CONFESSIONS OF A LITTLE LEAGUE COACH, was a baseball-centric one, though that’s now changed to soccer, possibly on account of the fact that Butler is Scottish. As the 24 Frames points out, Butler is “a supporter of Glaswegian football team Celtic, which would make the soccer theme a little more resonant than a baseball one.”
