Gervais sees Dead People

08.13.2008
I must say, I'm kind of disappointed in myself.  The British version of The Office is by far my favorite television-based comedy of all time and Ricky Gervais' David Brent is a perfect study in awkwardness and inadvertent brilliance. In my opinion, as far as comedic genius goes, nothing else comes close or ever will.

Therefore, I pride myself in knowing everything this guy is doing, every project realized, every ass scratched, every lager drank. I am a Ricky Gervais devotee. I was shocked then, to see this new poster of GHOST TOWN, a film starring the fluffy man in a project I've never heard of. For shame. It co-stars Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni. The plot is somewhat irrelevant, but for you curious folk, it involves the British funnyman as character who sees dead people. The film is to be directed by David Koepp, the man who wrote INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, WAR OF THE WORLDS, SPIDER-MAN, and many other films that you kids have a tendency to drool over. Kobe Bryant and Lebron James beware, there's a new dream team on the horizon. Here's the poster.

Extra Tidbit: Which do you prefer...the American "Office" or the (far superior) British version?

The british version has a far better story, but the U.S. version did a great job of taking that and turning it into a never-ending sitcom.

british one...obviously !!

i'm a huge ricky fan, the brit office is classic "curb your enthusiasm" style humour, and shouldnt be compared to the very good, but very different u.s. version.

saw the trailer in front of the pg tropic thunder opening night tonight (in canada). not as funny as i'd hoped, but very worth seeing. the trailer didnt lok good, imho. it didnt have any real laughs in it at all.

for more great britcoms, you have to check out nighty night, and the catherine tate show. you wont be disappointed.

British by faaar

You have official become my favorite JoBlo reporter Barna because I'm right there with you concerning the UK version of the Office. It is by far the best comedy i've seen on TV.

Can't wait to see ghost Town.

They showed the trailer before Tropic Thunder last night. It looks like it could be kind of funny. It's the usual Ricky Gervais way of delivering dialog (which is always classic) but with a bigger concept.

The American Office has carved out its own personality, and has become a really good show. After the 1st few eps, Carrell stepped away from trying to copy Gervais (an impossible task) and became his own version of our nightmare boss.

But nothing tops the British version. Every episode is heartbreakingly funny, awkward and sad.

Yeah, the original felt real, like it was a real documentary, the yank version? definitely more like a sitcom, which i do enjoy, but not nearly as believable.

that's what happens when you have 24 episodes a season with different writers/directors i suppose.

I'll pretty much see everything Ricky to the G is in. That is, until he breaks into my house, kicks my dog, disconnects my internet and steals my stuff...which is inevitable.

Yeah Gervais is amazingly funny and talented as hell. I like both versions, but I have only seen a few episodes of the UK one so I really can't judge. Especially since I've seen every season of the US one, plus watched them over a million times.

Even tho my love for John Krasinski weighs heavily on the US version.
