Get a closer look at Godzilla in new magazine cover!

Feb. 26, 2014by:

Yesterday, we got to see the new trailer for Gareth Edward's GODZILLA, the latest incarnation of the famed Toho Kaiju, and today Empire Magazine has revealed their latest cover with the giant lizard, which gives us another great look at the beast. So far, GODZILLA's new image has been closely guarded, but this serves as one of the most revealing images we've seen to date. Thankfully, it appears that they've nailed down the perfect blend of old school man-in-suit with a more realistic update that is a far cry from what was envisioned for Roland Emmerich's 1998 disaster.

Have a look:

I think it's safe to say that GODZILLA is at the top of most moviegoers summer viewing list at this point and I'm very curious to see how it compares to last summer's PACIFIC RIM, which was another big summer monster movie that didn't fare so well (based on budget and expectations, anyway). Will GODZILLA's reputation make him a more viable box-office champion or is it still up in the air whether or not audiences are ready for more monster mayhem? We'll certainly find out, but my money is on the electricity-spewing Gojira to make a big splash.

GODZILLA hits theater on May 16, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: Let me post this hypothetical: Would you rather see this new Godzilla film this summer or a sequel to Pacific Rim?

Hard choice. Pacific Rim wins by a slim margin. Giant robot monstrosities rocket-punching giant alien monstrosities is more fun than one big monstrosity stomping cities with a frantic brian cranston running around.

wow! extra tidbit question tough!

loved pacific rim and would love to see the sequel. probably go with that. i'm looking forward to godzilla for sure, but not as hyped for that as i was pacific rim. don't see how one monster is gonna do better than a bunch of them against 250 ft robots. so i'll go with the sequel.

Godzilla will only be Godzilla if it has the trademark radioactive breathe. No radioactive breathe then it will only be another giant lizard movie. I am waiting for the picture/scene that shows Godzilla burning everything with it's breathe.

Extra Tidbit

I want to see a crossover. That could very well happen.

I like it. I remember what Frank Darabont said about Godzilla being like Clifford the Big Red Dog, that it was hard to be scared of what had become a beloved national icon, so Gareth Edwards certainly had his work cut out for him in trying to craft a frightening, badass Godzilla. I think he's done it.

Godzilla looks terrific. Again, I hope he is terrifying as hell in the film.

Looks like a dog. Seriously, it's awful. They attached a dog's head to his body. Well at least it's not like the 98 version but the head looks nothing like G man.

The only difference is him not having the ridiculously rounded muppet mouth (that occurs NOWHERE in nature). Seriously....that's your hangup with the design? You want him to look more like Fozzy Bear? Wow......

First!

At least this one is a real threat. The previous just ran around. (In Final Wars, he gets his ass knocked off by the real one. Ha!)
