Get a closer look at the Rhino for The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Mar. 21, 2014by: Niki Stephens

Its an interesting thing what theyve done with the character of the Rhino in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Instead of providing him with a Rhino suit--its a Rhino mech. Yet, that mech will match the strength and power of the suit, but with machine guns. I keep wondering what a suit would have looked like, and if it would have come off corny to audiences. It completely works in the comics. Rhino AKA Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich is this huge, muscular Russian dude. Paul Giamatti is not that, but he is a great actor. However, his screentime for this flick is pretty short from what were hearing.

I thought you guys might want this close up of the mech. Theres also a nice little featurette that dives into the story and talks about the characters. I know you guys have been sort of hit in the face with that aspect, but there does seem to be some new bits of footage here.

Check it all out below.

Atleast its not black.

Oh come on guys, its not like he has a stun gun for his right hand and machine pistol for his left I mean what rubbish film would input that gimmick?

That is worse than I ever could have possibly imagined. Beside the horrendous fact that it is a robotic suit, it is seriously hard to decipher the design. It looks like a complete silver jumble mess. And if I am looking at KyleG's GIF correctly, is that thing running ON ALL FOUR LEGS? SERIOUSLY? This "Rhino" might be the worst design of any comic book character on film of all time (with this "Electro" and "Harry-Goblin-Thing" being 2nd and 3rd).

The Nolan Double Standard Effect.

Nolan turns the Batmobile into a tank....
Fanboys: BRILLIANT!

Webb turns Rhino suit into a Mech....

Fanboys: GOD! WHAT A SHITTY IDEA.

Long story short lets be more consistent with our gripes.

First off, not everybody likes the "Tumbler"

Secondly, turning Rhino into.... THAT thing... is the equivalent of turning Batman HIMSELF into a tank.

First off "not everybody like the "tumbler"....No shit.

Secondly, Batman's suit wasn't built to be "indestructible"...the Rhinos was...so turning Batman into a tank wouldnt make ANY sense at all. Where here this decision makes to make Rhino a mech is a....reasonable decision.

Thirdly, your complaint about the look of the mech suit is just a your personal opinion and I cant sway that.

But it makes you sounds like a bitter old internet troll.

Any real Bat-fan had already seen Frank Miller turn the Batmobile into a tank YEARS ago. I'm sure tons of fans had no problem w/ how Nolan's looked becase of this. And, now that I think about it, I've really never heard any non-fans complain about it either, just like I don't think non-fans will complain about the new Rhino suit.

I'm hoping the Rhino mech is a prelude to something more interesting for SM3. My issues isn't "whine, not like the comics", but rather this:
1) With the easter eggs we got of Doc Ock arms and Vulture wings, this mech suite feels out of place
2) How does he just know how to use the mech? Will they tell us he trained on it or is it one of those "anyone can pick it up in an afternoon" thing?
3) More importantly, it just looks unrealistic, which may sound weird, but the Ultimate version made

Complaints aside, from what I read, spoiler possibility

the fight is a few min. long. So this does leave a different design for Oscorp to create for ASM3. Who knows. I'm still gonna see the movie anyway.

Kind of like how Catwoman magically knew how to ride a very complicated Bat-cycle in The Dark Knight Rises?

Batman: This is how you.......

Catwoman: BLAH BLAH BLAH.....I can figure it out.

Catwoman drives off like a pro.

That literally happened in the movie.

you are an idiot, you just compared a mech to a motorcycle. all batman was gonna tell her was how to throttle up. thats not complicated at all. there was nothing unrealistic about what happened in the TDKR.

I am the idiot? The wheels on that " motorcycle" rotate vertically and horizontally allowing the "motorcycle" to move sideways....and it also shot tiny rockets....but yeah...you dont need any training AT ALL for that....The_ConMan you have been LAWYERED! Now go away.

My Guess

is that it is more a trial version of the tech and by the time we get to the Sinister Six film it will be more optimized.

Stop moaning

Some people are never happy. We've got another Spidey movie that looks extremely well done by people that care about the character, and you still get people whinging because it isnt up to their high expectations. If you really think that its going to be such a dissapointment, dont go and see it.

Probably the best course of action...

I hate to say it because I'm not a huge fan of the mech suit idea, but ya can't keep going around being like "what mutated figure will spidey have to fight next?" It gets a bit goofy after a while, and unfortunately with movies a while isn't that long lol.

I always thought a solid idea for a realistic take on the Rhino, and I don't mean a dino-bot. Instead, an inspiration by those performance suits in the first GI Joe movie. It should have just been some sort of supherhuman designed suit, designed by and for the military, and the suits' purpose is meant as some sort of a concept battle suit for soldiers to wear during battle...and how the suit can withstand an enormous beating before even leaving a scratch. To resemble the horns, a small, retractable blade would've been cool in order to get that done. Somehow, that suit (again) could have been a joint venture thing between Oscorp and the military...and bam, lands into the hands of Mr. Systevich. That's pretty much how I'd dream to see a realistic, but modern take on the Rhino today, while still maintaining his original elements (hulking suit with a dude in it) like in the comics.

I always liked villains like Rhino, Vulture, Octopus, and Lizard as they portray animals just like Peter does. I get creative freedom and I'm open minded still, but for all the waiting and hoping, I really wanted to see a hulking beast of a Rhino/man give Spidey a daunting physical battle.

Something about the villain designs in these new movies leave a lot to be desired. First you had the snout-less Lizard. New Goblin looks funny, and isn't exactly a story I wanted repeated fro Spider-man 3 anyway. The Rhino-bot looks better than a man in a suit, but that doesn't mean it's a goo idea when there are a bunch of more interesting villains to choose. Electro looks good, but I can't help to wonder how he would look if he was more like the original design (I always pictured William H.

So you want the green and yellow costume with the lightning bolt mask? That looked campy and ridiculous in the comics, I can't imagine how stupid that would have looked in a movie. What they've done is fine. You fanboys are too picky.

Just plain fucking lazy and no creativity.

I mean seriously!! Every suit, armor, or villains design from the original trilogy onward to recent comic book adaptations, the villains armor or design makes sense in a world they inhabit. Now we are suppose to believe that some engineer thought this idea up?! A fucking Rhino suit with fucking machine guns?! You should have just made the suit look like a person or something plausible. But this is the worst design an engineer could've made in this world, and all of this was just so they can

I still don't like the idea of all of the villains originating from Oscorp. One of the best things about Raimi's trilogy was seeing how the villains transformed into their villain counterparts. The best one being Sandman. Just a beautiful scene.

Agreed. I really liked Sandman's transformation and he had the ONLY believable motivation for a character in any of the 5 recent Spiderman movies (I'm assuming that the new villains will be equally lame/pychotic). The biggest problem with him in the film was the way he was tossed in, removed, then thrown back in again. It made the film entirely too choppy and him unbelievable as a threat.

Also, Thomas Church is an outstanding actor, but his lines were flat and made him uninteresting

Also, Thomas Church is an outstanding actor, but his lines were flat and made him uninteresting other than his origin and the scene with his wife & daughter. SM3 was a cluster-fck from the get go. Big let down for both Sandman and Venom. Plus Franco is a terrible actor and was awful in the film. At least we get a better actor for this resurrection of the Goblin.

The Sandman scene was beautiful BUT both Green Goblins and Doc Ock originated from Oscorp. I am just saying that's like at least 50% of the villainy in the original trilogy came from Oscorp. Not being a dick, just respectfully disagreeing. I just hope each villain has their own characteristics and story.
