Get a look at Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz on the set of The Three Musketeers

09.16.2010

I have no idea what to make of Paul W.S. Anderson's version of THE THREE MUSKETEERS.

It's got a pretty good cast: Milla Jovovich, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Mads Mikkelsen, Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom, Ray Stevenson, and Juno Temple among many others. But...do we need another version of THE THREE MUSKETEERS? Do we need it from Paul W.S. Anderson? Does it need to be in 3D?

Just Jared got some set pics from the film featuring Milla Jovovich, Orlando Bloom, and Christoph Waltz. Although I have to say that Mads Mikkelsen looks a lot more manly than Orlando here. Bloom is just so pretty.

Just check it out below. Christoph, we love you.

Extra Tidbit: Who actually likes Paul W.S. Anderson? I'm asking seriously.

Now im iffy on this...

First off there is waay too many Andersons directing right now. and two of them are very talented. Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson. Paul Ws Anderson is not so good but hes not god awful or like the worst director as that is already filled (Cough Uwe Boll). But this would be alot better with the same cast but a different director. I dont think he is near right for this and frankly im astonished that orlando bloom or christoph walts would be in this with him helming this. I certainly am

I'll gladly watch this. I was raised reading and hearing about this story - and it always fascinated me. An update is alright by me. At least from the pictures looks faithful.

He's A Lot Of Fun

I like Anderson, and minus the utter horrid crap that is the first "AVP" film, that one was still better than the second, so I give him a little leeway there.

"Mortal Kombat" was pretty faithful, had good action, and was fun. The special effects still look good, for the most part. "Soldier" was a solid, visually striking film that had a few flaws, but was interesting. "Event Horizon" is a masterpiece; one of the best modern haunted house type horror flicks to date. His two "Resident Evil"

His two "Resident Evil" films are good, with the newest one having a renewed energy that the third was lacking. "Death Race" was a ridiculously fun, shut brain off kind of film that had very exciting chases.

His films (excluding "EH" for being perfect, and "AVP" for sucking the big one) are mindless fun, but well made mindless. In a world where terribly made dumb shit gets made and is a huge success (fucking you "Expendables"), I will gladly take dumb shit that is well made, has good special effects, and the action can be followed because it's lit properly.

As for this film, we haven't had a version since, what, "The Musketeer" maybe, so why not? Plus, his use of 3D in "RE: Afterlife" was excellent, so I know it will be here as well (remember, it's being filmed in, not converted to)

This is not a role befitting THE Hans Landa.

as for the rest of the movie... Like Robin Hood, it's been done. and done. and done...

He really doesn’t bother me at all. I’ve enjoyed most of his movies. No, he’s not Martin Scorsese, and he knows that. He’s just a passionate filmmaker who makes fun sci-fi and adventure movies. At least he’s not a pretentious asshole like McG or Brett Ratner, who think they’re the next James Cameron or something. Anderson just likes making movies, and I see nothing wrong with that. Plus, he’s banging Milla. Respect.

Yes/No/Maybe

Ultimately, I'm neutral with Anderson as a film maker. Outside his RE films, the man does have an eye for strikingly telling a story through visuals. Yes, I am another one of those folks who dug 'Event Horizon', but while it may be called overrated, it is for good reason- many people on some level enjoyed it.

As for Musketeers, I am confounded by it being in 3D, but also, I am a fan of the book, and I've enjoyed a couple of the movies. At the very least, this may be an entertaining flick,

I like him, in every interview he comes off as a nice guy, I dug the new Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat was a childhood favorite of mine and Event Horizon is still one of the scariest things I've ever seen. Has every film he made been great? Oh hell no! But the man has heart and clearly a great taste in women. I hope working on RE: Afterlife instilled him with a new skill set and I'm interested in seeing what a 3 Musketeers flick from him looks like.

I liked him thanks to "Event Horizon."

I have zero interest in this flick. I liked "Event Horizon" quite a bit & really enjoyed "Mortal Kombat" when it came out. This however sounds awful & don't want to see the 100th version of the story just because it's in 3D. Whatever happened to Orlando Bloom anyway? He seems to be doing nothing good. I thought for sure he was a shoo-in movie star, now, not so much.

I actually do like Paul W.S. Anderson. Not on the level of say Nolan, but I enjoy his films. They are fun. I agree, they are not great, but they are to me the same as some cheesy fluff piece (which they are really). I don't know about this whole 3D Musketeers thing, and those costumes are hideous, even for middle age French stuff. But we'll see. I know Anderson gets a bad rap, but I don't know anyone who doesn't like Mortal Kombat, and Event Horizon was a great sci-fi horror piece.

And the boots!

My gawd, did you see the boots? They're gorgeous. Why don't men wear boots like that any more? They should be mandatory male wear.

Well...

...Christoph definitely looks like the traditional interpretation of Cardinal Richeleu...so they got that right at least. But damn Orlando Bloom and his fruity swashbuckling roles with his boring boringness. This will be a rental for me possibly, only for Xtoph.

Never really liked Paul W.S. Anderson's films. For some reason, I don't think I'll like this one either. With Waltz and Mikkelson in it I know I'll see it eventually, but I really can't excited about another Musketeer movie.

I wonder if they'll have to spray paint cleavage on Milla like they did with Keira Knightley. This looks quite terrible, so I'm passing ahead of time. Milla and Paul always ensure me not attending.
