Get a look at Sacha Baron Cohen's latest creation in the trailer for The Dictator

Dec. 14, 2011by: Mike Sampson

It's been so over-quoted throughout the past few years, it's easy to forget just how good BORAT was when it was released. I don't think I've laughed as hard at anything in the years since. BRUNO was good, but not quite as good, and not even as funny as Cohen's performance in TALLADEGA NIGHTS.

While Cohen has been busy acting in other people's films (in Martin Scorsese's HUGO and Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED) he did find time for another one of his creations, THE DICTATOR. Unlike BORAT or BRUNO, this isn't a documentary style film and instead a traditional narrative about a dictator from the fictional Republic of Wadiya, who comes to the United States to learn about democracy (and how to keep it from the country he so lovingly oppresses).

There are some pretty good gags in here including a great Kardashian bit at the end. I don't want to give too much away, so check out the trailer for yourself below.

I spit my coffee out laughing at the female bodyguard breaking a brick with her tit.

I LOVED the use of footage of Obama & Co. condemning Muammar Gaddafi as if they were talking about Cohen's character. Goes well with the fact that the script is a parody of an actual love story written by Saddam Hussein.

Coming to America...

This is like if Coming to America was about Saddam instead of an African prince... I didn't laugh too much though, it was funny but not at levels expected by Cohen's previous roles. I laughed more at John C. Reilly's part than anything else. Also, taking shots at Kardashian's is getting old. I'm not defending them but its like we get it, they are ridiculous.

Guess you haven't seen Hugo yet. Cohen's a much actor better actor than Myers.

WTF indeed

Agree with the track scene looking funny as hell, but, sadly, it does seem like he's in R rated Mike Myers territory. Looks terrible, but don't doubt there's some good gags in it.

Funny gags.
I wonder how many people though are going to get all of the jokes.
Like the female bodyguards being trained are a reference to the fact that Kim Jong-Il travels with a pack of female bodyguards. Hahaha.
Funny to see that this isn't only focusing on Sadaam as a dictator, but others as well.

I know the movie is supposed to be inappropriate, but I didn't appreciate the Empire State Building joke. I know it's been 10 years since 9/11 and we should all try to move on, but that joke wasn't in good taste.

Nice that your objection wasn't about current-day Islamophobia the joke was referencing directly, but about the decade old tragedy the joke was only superficially about.

-Cohen is a master satirist...at his weakest, he's still stronger with his material than everyone else.
-Megan Fox ruined her face with the unnecessary work she had done.
-Good satire leaves no stone unturned, GREAT satire takes the same stone, picks it up, smashes it, and throws the fragments at you...which is why I'm not offended by the Empire State Building joke...doesn't make me any less sympathetic...i just understand that this is farce, and Cohen isn't afraid to end up tying in even the
