AMERICAN ASSASSIN may be a movie that’s flying under a lot of radars. Outside of MAZE RUNNER star Dylan O'Brien has yet to really lead any huge vehicles, and the book series by Vince Flynn may not exactly be as big as the JASON BOURNE or JACK REACHER franchises. That said, here are some images of the movie to give you more of an idea of what to expect of the upcoming movie, and, more importantly, what Michael Keaton would look like if he started reading conspiracy theory websites and moved into a cabin in the woods.

Enjoy the pics which also feature the rest of the cast including Taylor Kitsch, Sanaa Lathan, Nej Adamson and Shiva Negar!

If that's not enough for you greedy lot here's a plot synposis:

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

These may not do a lot to sway the uninterested, but clearly O'Brien is doing what he can to break into different leading-man territory, and who doesn’t love Michael Keaton? From the looks of it the man may get a chance to demonstrate more of his action chops, showing those young whipper-snaps like O'Brien how it’s done!

AMERICAN ASSASSIN from director Michael Cuesta (KILL THE MESSENGER) is set for some time in 2017.

Eh, pictures certainly haven't swayed me, but I'm sure it will be worth a watch

So far this looks alright IMO. Still need to see a trailer to get the full effect I think. But it's nice to see studios are taking more chances on developing spy thrillers/franchises. In regards to O'Brien as the lead character, I'm all for it. I've seen the first two Maze Runner movies, and while the movies themselves are ok, I did feel that O'Brien as the lead character was somewhat beyond that kind of movie with his talent. So here's hoping he can live up to something more adult in this
