Get an early glimpse at the new John Carter trailer with six new pics

Nov. 28, 2011by: Mike Sampson

JOHN CARTER only has about three months until it hits theaters in March and it faces an uphill battle when it comes to finding an audience. Buzz on the expensive adaptation from Pixar director Andrew Stanton has been poor even among Edgar Rice Burroughs fanboys. Disney hopes to turn the tide a little bit this week with a brand new trailer.

The trailer won't debut until Thursday but a few screencaps have popped up online and given us a glimpse at what to suggest. So far it looks beautiful but, like TRON: LEGACY before it, the knock against JOHN CARTER was never that it wasn't going to look good.

What are you thinking about JOHN CARTER? Are you even thinking at all about JOHN CARTER? Take a look at these new pics below and keep your eyes peeled for the new trailer on Thursday.

I recently gave Tron Legacy and Prince of Persia the benefit of the doubt and watched them. They both turned out to be moronic macguffin chasing affairs that bored me to polar extremes. The Pirates of the Caribbean movies and Cowboys VS Aliens all seem to be the same kind of shit from their trailers, which is why I've never watched any of them. Thor, a movie which I was excited about, turned out to be another such example. I have absolutely no faith in John Carter. American high-fantasy

I'll stick to Hayao Miyazaki.

I think Tron Legacy was awesome and underrated. Thor was cool too. Quit nitpicking everything.

I can understand your ire, but I think what this has that some of the other films you mention don't have, is great source material in the way of Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tron Legacy, Prince of Persia, and other films like it were probably written by 22 year old college grads with little to no life experience. That makes their writing dull, shallow, and lifeless. The same can't be said for ERB.

Totally reading this series for my Comic Book website. I had never linked the two together until now. Thanks for the heads up.

This looks great. Really excited that someone is finally drawing from some source material that hadn't been done to death.
Something original: what a breath of fresh air.

Here we go again, whether or not this movie will be good or make money. I think it looks great. My only problem at all is Taylor Kitsch as the lead.

I have to admit, I'm not sure he has the chops either. The fact that we haven't seen him act in the first trailer does give a little cause for concern.

Wow. OK well looks wise, he's good. Just not sure he has the chops to really pull me into the story. I'm not saying he can't...I'm just saying that's the ONLY thing I could see holding this film back.

A lot of folks seem to have an issue with Taylor Kitsch as the lead, but frankly he looks a lot like Frazetta's rendering of the character:

Nope.

More often than not, movie adaptations come along and totally destroy every reasoning behind why people enjoyed the source material. Just because this is based on the stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs does not mean it will be good. Nothing in what was released so far has anyone I know interested in seeing it.

This movie is going to flop like Conan. Prolly for the same reasons too. But I will still catch it on netflix as one of those "Oh hey, I forgot this existed, I have nothing better to do"

I don't know that movie adaptations totally destroy every reasoning behind why people enjoyed the source material. I'm sure that folks will continue to read Hulk comics despite two lackluster film adaptations.
ERB source material may not be a guarantee of a good film, but it certainly makes it a better bet than films whose source material came from a college kegger.
It may or may not flop, but nothing we've seen here even comes close to the blatant silliness of the Conan remake. That thing

Can't Wait!

I haven't read John Carter but I have read another of his books which I think would make a cool movie that is The Land That Time Forgot. I'm glad to they are adapting older books into movies. I have more hope for this than Conan. There are so many great stories from H.G. Wells, H.P. Lovecraft, Jules Verne, and Robert E. Howard. As long as they don't get half ass writers like they do for video game adaption and stay true to the sources (unlike Journey To The Center of The Earth and Mysterious

Why are people hating on this movie is stupid to me. I hope they redo the Conan movies eventually, that character hasn't got the justice it deserves.

The Land That Time Forgot is already made, twice. And god forbid they should remake it again, all Doug McClure fanboys would go crazy!

so far so good

it looks pretty promising, i just don't think there's any way it's gonna make the money the studio is expecting

Hollywood needs to:

stop banking everything on expensive CGI and high priced actors... they need a decent script... and that means spending some duckets on a WRITER!
