Get an up close look at Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin from Amazing Spider-Man 2

Mar. 26, 2014by:

We've gotten a lot of teases and glimpses of the Green Goblin in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and now we have an up close and personal view of the webhead's main nemesis, as portrayed by actor Dane DeHaan. It's a genuinely creepy image and a bit more goblin-ish than Willem Dafoe or James Franco's versions in the first SPIDER-MAN trilogy. Based on what we're seeing I get the feeling that this could potentially be the first step in Gobby's transformation, leading to *gasp* a fully GREEN Green Goblin. Sequels will tell, but that's my impression.

Of course, there's the case of the Ultimate Green Goblin (below, along with the regular one), who is more of a 'roided-out beast than a traditional goblin. DeHaan's stature is more befitting of the original Green Goblin than the pumped-up version in the Ultimate universe, though. One of the problems with Marvel's Ultimate universe is that it gives filmmakers way too many options when translating to the big screen, as they tend to smash the regular and ultimate universes together when adapting the material, which can be confusing, especially for hardcore fans. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing DeHaan's Goblin in action and, more importantly, where his journey will go beyond the sequel.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.

Extra Tidbit: On the other hand, he does look a little "Brundlefly" doesn't he?

Too Much, Way Too Much

I really wish Sony and Marc Webb had kept a lid on the (most of the villains) until the movie dropped. I would have been happily surprised with seeing so many show up. Maybe I wouldn't be so critical as I am now. I'm still stoked to see this being a giant Spidey fan. But we don't need any more trailers (four is way too much) or TV spots. I don't want any more poster or photos. I just want to watch the movie as cold as possible which I know now is not a reality. I will still be at the midnight

Webb just cant get the villains right. Guess thats what you get when you hire the guy whose only other film was 500 Days of Summer and not someone with experience in creature design

It looks like he's still transforming into the full fledged Green Goblin. We all know he's gonna be in another one (or two), maybe he'll look more like everyone on this website wants in the next movie.

Better looking and makes more sense than Raimi's Green Goblin

I never understood how punching a man in a big and heavily protected helmet could hurt him in the first Spider-Man film?
The look of the new Green Goblin makes more sense and is way more terrifying in a realistic "Joker" style approach.

And not all of us comic book/Spidey fans enjoy the more realistic approach. That was all fine and well for The Dark Knight trilogy, but it's not needed for heroes like Spider Man and the Fantastic Four.

Soloist, DeHaan looks very goblin like, he's partially green, he has a glider, and he's terrifying. What else did you want? A hood? How 'realistic' is it for a villain going 80 mph on a glider to have a hood that's not stitched into his head? Also, who said Spider-Man is realistic? Electro is made out of pure electricity, the villain in the last movie was a giant Lizard.

DeHaan has that slightly sickly look about him generally that Harry Osborn always had in the old comics, so I'm sure he will do well in the role. As for the look of the Goblin - it's okay. Not blown away by it but I'm sure it could be worse.

Badass. A cyberpunked jokerized sprite. Yes the scaly green skin and all would have been nice, but this design looks real true to the nature of the Goblin. DeHaan already looks unhinged without the makeup, a lot more than Franco and maybe even more than Dafoe himself. This version of him could rival the Joker.

Dane DeHaan is one of my favourite young actors

so I have no doubt he's going to kill this role. I agree that I would have liked to have seen more of Harry and Peter's relationship before he became the Green Goblin but I'm looking forward to seeing DeHaan bringing it as one of the villains.

looks good

at this point people hating on it are just bitter to the whole Amazing Spider-man Franchise. There are plenty of reasons why aspects of what works on page doesn't translate to the screen. In regards to masks, we're going to have to accept that there are actors involved and their face and acting is what elevates a movie and brings in crowds. Don't get me wrong, kudos to Dredd for getting Urban to keep the helmet on but that's a rarity.

He doesn't look like the Green Goblin, Green Goblin NEEDS a mask, I have always hated the stupid ultimate universe green goblin. In the start Norman Osborn didn't realize he was the Green Goblin, and the conflict of being the Green Goblin in the comics, and then translated into the movie was the best part. Yes the pretty boy green goblin sucked but that was dumb. Yes the Green Goblin costume in the Raimi movie wasn't good, but at least it tried! This Green Goblin has a dirty face,

I like the approach, I am pretty sure the serum or what ever is responsible for the transformation is what turns his skin green and alters his physical appearance which I think is quite interesting as physical flaws can also play a part in peoples psychological state so I am all for this look.

If this is the begging of Osborn's transformation (It was done in the episode of Spiderman & His Amazing Friends cartoon), then the final should look good. Maybe a Hobgoblin, Jack O Lantern and Demogoblin later? There's a lot to pick from after a couple movies. Kraven, Jackal, Carrion to name a few.

What do you people want?

If it's too close to the comics, people complain the studio wasn't original enough. If it's too much of a departure, people complain the studio doesn't care about the fans. From this photo, it looks like Webb has stayed true to the Goblin's overall creepiness while adding some Nosferatu for cinematic purposes. I like it a hell of a lot more than Raimi's power ranger.

I like this costume, it is spot on, and anyone debating that doesn't read fucking comics, but I hate the serious tone of these most recent Spider-man movies, Spider-man is a fun hokey comic book, not some teen angst bullshit.

You're totally right! How dare Peter Parker be "angsty" when both his parents died at a young age. I mean his actions are only half the reasons that led to his uncle getting shot. Watching your girlfriends father die in front of you and having him make you promise not to see his daughter anymore as he died wouldn't bum me out either...

That costume isn't spot on. I am a giant Green Goblin fan, probably the biggest Green Goblin fan there is, and that is not spot on. However I do agree that Spider-man should be a little bit more fun. I get some of the angst but he needs to be funny not a dick.

I didn't like the 1st ASM movie but I was jazzed for ASM2...until I heard they were doing the Goblin already. I was hoping for some setup of the Norman/Harry relationship, but this movie instead seems too packed with villains and not in the way Nolan filled his Bat-films and still managed to handle the weight. I still feel like the Goblin was shoe-horned into this movie simply so they could kill off Gwen Stacy sooner rather than later. We shall see...

Well, he definitely looks like a goblin, but I still prefer the more subtle look of both Green Goblins in the original trilogy......more of a less is more type of situation.

Despite that I think DeHaan is going own the role in this one like Franco did before in the original trilogy.

A giant exaggerated and loud lime green suit with a giant power ranger helmet with golden yellow eyes? That isnt subtle at all. This version is more subtle (if I can even use that word) than raimis. DeHaan still looks like himself. Just dirty with crazy hair and teeth.

I get what you mean. In Raimi's films, Norman and Harry still looked like themselves under their outfits, whereas this new version seems to have actually mutated Harry. If it's like a temporary power up thing where he goes back to normal afterwards then fair enough, but if they do use that idea then they'll probably also have him take too much to beat Spider-Man or get addicted so the transformation goes haywire or becomes permanent.

that makes no sense because when they are normal....they are normal. There is nothing here that indicates that DeHaans transformation is permanent. So when hes not G.G he may (or may not) look normal again. We are talking about the G.G costume not how they look as civilians.
