Get closer to death and feel more alive in this trailer for Ron Howard's Formula One film Rush with Chris Hemsworth

Rush

There hasn't been that many pure racing movies in recent memory. There have been some foreign films such as MICHAEL VAILLANT and INITIAL D but for a country that loves their cars America has ignored racing films lately. THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise became more about the action and films such as SPEED RACER and HERBIE: FULLY LOADED don't really count in my opinion. And the less said about DRIVEN the better.

There's a new trailer for Ron Howard's Formula One film RUSH and it looks like it will have exciting racing scenes as well as some insight as to why some men have a need for speed. The film is based around the 1976 Formula One season and specifically the rivalry between drivers James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl).

Take a look:

To me some of Ron Howard's best films have been the ones based on true stories like APOLLO 13 and A BEAUTIFUL MIND. He does a fantastic job of making someone or something extraordinary relatable (how many of you are astronauts or flawed mathematical geniuses?) and RUSH looks like it could be another solid entry from the director. I'm not a racing fan (or even a huge a fan of films based on racing) but there were plenty of interesting events during the Formula One season of 1976 and with some intense racing (and of course some "quiet" moments), RUSH could be a movie worth checking out.

Also starring Olivia Wilde, RUSH zooms into theaters on September 20th, 2013.

Porsche vs Ferrari in Against All Odds. no CGI, just driving.
and this makes Formula 1, something i dont follow, look worth following.

DAMN

That looks like how driven should of been. Don't get me wrong I like driven for the sheer movie popcorness of it but as a movie its self its pretty damn bad LOL. But this looks amazing, really good car crashes and a very touching story. I am down.

After seeing the trailer all I can say is

WOW. This is how you make a trailer. You can just FEEEL the passion that these two had for racing as well as the passion Howard had to make this a great movie. Day 1 for me.

The chariot race from Ben-Hur. Hands down. When I was seven years old I used to sit through that whole movie just so I could watch the race at the end.

About time they made a F1 movie. With the speed, story lines and glamour of the sport, it is perfectly suited for the movies, especially the James Hunt/Niki Lauda rivalry.

So happy

As a die hard F1 fan (I actually put my alarm at 6:30am on sundays to watch the races live) I cant wait for this movie. There are so many great stories in the history of F1 and this is one of them, Lauda and Hunt are both great drivers and this story is great.

Looks fantastic!

When Ron Howard finds the right story he can be one of the most purely cinematic directors in the business. Apollo 13 is still my favorite movie of his, and he does have a particular way with true stories. I don't know much about the actual true story here, but judging by the trailer this has that special something that could make it a real crowd-pleaser.
